This question was tailor made for me. Since about Christmas my daughter's room has reeked of something dead. Her room is a rubbish heap of clothes and make-up nonsense. We moved a bunch of stuff, smelled around and determned the stench was coming from a particular area of the room. She reminded me that she slept in a spare room a few weeks back because she heard scrabbling sounds coming from a vent. I remove air duct vent covers, stick my nose in and give a sniff...nothing. The next day the stink is coming out of her door into the hallway. She's no longer been sleeping in the room because of the smell. After sniffing all over the place and carefully moving everything in her room we found what the smell was. An open tin of spiced octopus. She had received it as a gag gift the previous Christmas. It sat in her room for almost a year until, feeling curious, she opened the tin to have a look inside. She put the tin aside where it became covered with the flotsam and jetsam of a teenaged girls room. Eventually it was a smell that came straight from Satan's bowels.

When I was about 16, I went to visit my grandmother at her place. The smell of natural gas was intense, even though Nana didn't seem to notice it much.
She was groggy - sort of half-asleep - not her usual responsive self. So I made her get out of the house at once and opened the windows and doors.
I called Dad and he reported it to the gas company, who sent inspectors right away. They shut off the gas (valve in the street) immediately and sent a repair crew to fix a leaking joint in the gas supply pipe.
The inspector said that if I hadn't acted then and there, the probability was great that there would soon have been an explosion.

Was 15/16 at a house party with my good friend, another girl.
There were some gatecrashers who turned up ( which weren’t unusual at London house parties) but these guys were older, and there was just a vibe. A girl I vaguely knew, was very drunk and being surrounded by them and I asked her if she was ok and she told me to “F**k off, I’m fine.”
I looked at my friend and said to her “I’m gonna call my mum and dad to come get me do you want a lift?” (My parents were always amazing and said to me that if I was at a party or out and for ANY reason didn’t want to be where I was I could call them and they would come and get me)
My parents turned up, coats on over pyjamas and took us both home. Apparently half an hour after we left, someone was stabbed, the girl we had asked earlier was sexually assaulted and lots of stuff was stolen and people beaten up and held up at knifepoint.
I had such a feel in the air that I’ve hardly felt before or since and KNEW we needed to not be there.

The first afternoon I spent with my best friend's and now partner's family I was six years old, I fell and scraped my knee, as six-year-olds do. His dad rushed over and helped me up, telling me it’d be okay and that I was okay and that we’d go clean it up inside. I had never had an adult clean my cuts before, no one had ever taken care of me before, not since I was old enough to feed, dress and bathe myself. I realised then that my parents were supposed to take care of me.

1982. 4th grade. I got one of those s****y plastic costumes for Halloween. Decided not to wear anything under it. It degraded. Long story short, you know that common nightmare where you are sitting in class in your underwear? Ya.

Was picking my son up from school and the hot male preschool teacher was letting the kids go, I am holding back a fart when getting my son. I get him loaded into the car, get into drivers seat and let it rip…the hot teacher starts walking and I’m thinking oh he is going to talk yo another parent…nope came to my car and wanted to tell me he forgot to mention that my son got hurt but forgot to write it up…(was just a bump on the elbow). When he is telling me, I could tell he smelled it…by his face and my son laughing.

For grade school, I attended a religious school. We went to church every week. One week, the weather was particularly warm and muggy, and we were in church. I was wearing the school uniform shorts, while sitting on the wooden pew/seats and my skin was very sticky.
The priest was droning on through his homily, and I adjusted my position in the seat. The back of my sweaty sticky leg stuck to the pew and made the loudest farting sound against the hardwood of the seat, and it echoed through the church, and everything subsequently went silent. *Everyone*, including the priest looked my way. There was a long, awkward, silent pause while everyone gazed at me while I flushed red like never before.
Nothing else came of it, the priest continued droning on and everyone else continued being bored, but that moment of thunderous fart noise and the world standing still while everyone stared at little 2nd grade me was absolutely mortifying.

My sister in law. My niece plays field hockey and I love her. She plays in two different leagues. Meaning it’s 3 hours of field hockey games every Saturday and Sunday. My SIL expected me and my husband to drive an hour one way both days to watch niece play and pay rapt attention the whole time. Did I mention the games are at 7 am? We did this about once a month on either Saturday or Sunday and I guess this wasn’t enough for her.
We had to tell her that we loved Niece but we weren’t going to be as involved as she was in the league.

A guy cut me in line at the grocery store. I pointed out that I was in line and he just shrugged his shoulders and turned his back to me. The checker on the next line over called for next in line and he ran over there. Then the checker left while he was unloading groceries. I was able to check out and bag my groceries before his checker ever came back.

Went on a first date with a coworker’s daughter (she encouraged the arrangement), we went to dinner, everything is going good when I go to drop her off she asks me to come inside so i oblige. We are chillin on her bed and talking about life and somehow she brings up that if her ex baby daddy (who had just dumped her and moved to another state leaving her with a 5 month old to fend for themselves) came back asking for a second chance she would give it to him. She said this with a serious straight faced expression. And that’s not the worst part I went on to date her for over a month after that and it was the most mentally damaging relationship I’ve ever been in. Boys when the crazy slips out on the first date, RUN and don’t look back.
