That's a horrible way to see things.. particularly because lines can be blurry, areas can be gray and we all have different opinions and beliefs.. either way, people can be educated and change (for the most part).. whilst death is a terrible and permanent punishment. Uhhhh whatever stats you saw on this is probably either misrepresented or completely false. Japan may have low crime rates, but so does Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Plus, there's so much nuance to the topic (the dedication to the religion, media misrepresentation, etc) that it's almost impossible to make a claim like that. I'm willing to discuss but I genuinely don't think being able to control yourself in what you see as taboo contributes to crimes.

Oh of course some people will masturbate, even in religious societies. It's like how people do drugs even when it's illegal. Still, a few people doing it doesn't mean everyone does. I'm just saying a 19 year old having never masturbated is completely plausible.

Hm, maybe. I do know that in more conservative societies, masturbation in general isn't discussed that much, so most teenagers don't even know what it is. I grew up in a very religious country, and it's very different from western countries, so I understand how unbelievable it seems. Think of it like Fahrenheit 451. Could be religious thing. Most religious people don't really know about sexual stuff until they're married. It's possible he doesn't even know what masturbation is, just knows it's something sexual. It's really easy to keep away from things that you're not taught about or see as taboo.

It is sort of unrelated except regional thing but recently I learned on BP how in some parts of the south people say "my pleasure" instead of thank you. Heard it in the wild yesterday. Walked around a car to get to my parking spot (driver started getting out of his car). I said, sorry, I didn't see you there. He said, "my pleasure". also had a bit of an accent suggesting he was likely from that area and not from Washington state. made me chuckle inside.

No. The reason is they help. Before the ACA was passed, it was the Catholic church that stepped up and provided health care to my family at no charge (we are not Catholic or religious). This year, when my son's therapist left our clinic, it was the Catholic church that got my son a new one (she is not Catholic). When my brother and sister went to college, it was the Catholic colleges that gave them full scholarships to attend (they are not religious either). When my mom was in crisis and needed a new PCP, it's the Catholic church who got her into a new clinic (OK. My mom was raised Catholic). When my mom was moving a relative to a new home and needed help with furniture and trucks and stuff, it was the Catholic church that provided people and vehicles to help (said relative hates Catholics). The reason the Catholic church is still alive is because they help people. They may not help everyone, but they help enough people that they still float.
