My name is Mardou, I’m a cartoonist and author of graphic novels. For the past year, I’ve been sharing short comics that explore the therapy process. I had to get comfortable with talking about uncomfortable things – my upbringing, growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness teen, my parents’ divorce, parenting my child, and the things that trigger me are just a few topics I’ve looked at.

It’s taken a while to get comfortable with sharing personal stories, but the response has been positive and accepting, and my readership has been steadily growing. I’d love to share this work with others who are struggling with difficult emotions or family histories.

My message is that there is hope! Trauma and childhood adversity can be healed and transformed through therapy and self-compassion. I upload a new strip every week on my Instagram page. I am also gradually uploading them all to a website (linked below).

My name is Violeta and I am an editor here at Bored Panda. I love reading memes for a living. It’s obviously much more than that, but I appreciate the variety of topics, information, and pics I get to see every day and share with the world! Those funny memes really make my day too. Being born in the ’90s in post-Soviet Lithuania speaks more about me than I’d like to admit. I’m still learning about the world and myself, but I do love my friends, traveling, art, and my cat. My favorite fact to share about myself is that I used to hide meatballs in my friend’s pockets at lunch so I could go play outside. I wish all those meatballs could find their way back to me someday.

Mardou, thank you very much for sharing. Tragically, many people look down at therapy and at people who seek therapy. Every single person alive is broken in some way, some more than others. I commend you for going to and continuing therapy. BTW, I love your art work!

"every single person alive is broken in some way." Really, Dr. DiFonso, well, I happen to disagree.

Thank you for sharing. In India we have a lot less therapists and lot of talkative strangers. Life in India means strangers are quite comfortable asking personal questions that you wouldn't ask your siblings, parents, kids or besties in the Western World. We talk a lot to each other and when I travel in the Western world we find it strange that people don't talk to each other. Indians constantly talk to strangers in lifts, public transport... everywhere. Sadly, we are also going the Western way and have over the decades stopped talking as much as we used to. And sure enough the number of people in therapy is going up. May you find joy and peace within yourselves.

The Navy sent me to six weeks of inpatient therapy, and I attended AA meetings and Overeaters Anonymous meetings sporadically for years. I learned about myself and about other people.

The right therapist can be a literal life saver. I have at least four therapists to thank for my being still alive. If I had the money I would still be in therapy! With the right therapist it's a tremendous adventure.

Therapy made a hugely beneficial impact on my life. My only advice is to make sure you see several different therapists until you find one that is a fit for you. I ended up working with a great therapist who helped me immensely and I'll always be grateful.

Thank you for sharing. I have a hard time talking about my feelings and recently had some feelings of sadness, emptiness and self hate. The littlest things would set me off. I kept it a secret because I thought my parents wouldn't take it seriously. I talked to counselors online sometimes but I knew I couldn't go on like this. I opened up to my mum about it and she talked me into going to a therapist which I will start soon. I'm hoping it will get better.

After reading all the comments, i believed that people would just make fun out of this poor souls, but i guess they only do it to the ones they've chosen to hate. It's very hard to find people to be decent on issues, many become a******s because they don't like others with different ideas from their own. Or when they're confronted on why are they being jerks. This is indeed a lucky lady. I salute her.
