Hi everyone, I’m Doodlemancer and I enjoy telling stories. I usually draw light-hearted comics but today, I would like to share my personal struggles as a gay man for Pride Month.

I’ve always been afraid to talk about my sexuality and that left me feeling isolated for years. I hope by sharing my story, I can reach out to others who are struggling just like me.

And to everyone who was bullied or has suffered for being different, know that you are wonderful just for being you and that no amount of prejudice and hate can change that. Thank you and I hope you enjoy my story.

I truly hope that one day you feel confident enough to no longer hide the truth from your family and friends. It saddens me that homosexuality is still taboo in many countries and that some friends and family can turn their back on the people they supposedly love because of their sexuality. I wish you peace and all the best for the future.

I'm sorry to learn that your country isn't respectful of people's sexuality and that you have to live a life where you don't feel safe to be open about such an important part of yourself. Things are changing worldwide, but unfortunately not as fast as it should. I hope one day you'll be able to live the life you wish and deserve to live. There's nothing wrong with you. Love from Brazil ❀

I've noticed that homophobes tend to spend a lot more time obsessing on gay sex than actual gays do. In fact, male homophobes seem to be particularly obsessed with the intricate details of male homosexual sex acts. Frankly, if I find something to be off-putting or "disgusting" I try to spend as little time thinking about it as possible.

The exact same is done to polyamorous people. Everyone constantly focuses on the sex, when polyamory isn’t about sex. It’s about having multiple and concurrent ETHICAL non-monogamous relationships; sex is incidental.

I will never ever understand a father or mother rejecting their child for being gay. I am 58 and have 3 grown children and all I want for them in this life on earth is happiness!! Consenting adults don't need anyone to be in their bedroom and if people would stop focusing on the sexual part and see how truly happy and in love and how we are all wanting the same things out of life, this divide will end!!

Australia has just legalized gay marriage. It was a scary time, with an "optional postal vote". Some of the anti-gay stuff was very mean. Love is love. I am not christian, but try this on your parents. - Does God make mistakes? Because God made me. I am not a mistake. My love is not a mistake. - Hold on! the world is getting better.

Try as I might, I've just never understood homophobia. Homosexuality among consenting adults does not hurt anyone, does not harm any living creature. OK, I grew up in a family where there were a few gay folk, but no one talked about them. They also didn't talk about the numerous abusive alcoholics in the fam, who caused a lot of harm to themselves and others, but they seemed to be more "acceptable" (i. e., "integrated" into family) than the gay folk. I also married into a fam with gay members, but didn't know at the time. And I have had gay friends over the years -- many. These were wonderful, kind, smart, talented people -- immediate fam, in-laws, friends. Homosexuality is by no means a universal "taboo" over culture/location/time. Why does it bother some people so much? Also, I grew up Catholic, but gayness never came up in a religious sense. Maybe because the environment in which I grew up said that the 11th commandment is "Mind your own business".

I'm straight and have two kids. If any of them turns out to be gay and anyone is talking sh.it about my kids because of their sexuality I'll beat the cr.p out of him/ her. It's not a disease, it's not something that needs to be healed. I'll raise my kids never to have fear to accept themselves and never to have fear to trust me enough to talk to me about their problems. The world is bad enough without us making it more miserable to the ones we are supposed to love. My only requirement for my kids is to be good people when they grow up. Gay or not. There is nothing else that really matters.

Why can't everyone just accept each other and how they live their lives instead of judging each other and how they live their lives? Who cares who loves who and what they do in their bedrooms. I don't want to know what anybody does in their bedroom. It is nobody's damn business! Everyone should be treated equally and especially by their families for God sakes. God created each and every person just as they are. There is no choosing your sexuality because you are born that way. The only choices the LGBTQ people have to make is when do they feel safe enough to let family and others know who they were born to be. I am just appalled that there are still countries and laws against homosexuality. It sickens me and pisses me off royally. We are all the same damn it! Get over it so everyone is free to live their lives without hatred. Unless you are f*****g perfect just shut the hell up about everybody else.

Saying β€œI’m sorry, I hope things get better” is really unhelpful, but I wanted to acknowledge you as a human being. I see you. I see your plight. I hear you. I hear your suffering. If it were within my power to vote for an equal rights law (or equivalent) in your country, I would be one of those people who would do so. I live in a place that is much more progressive on this issue (though we have our conservatives who want to undo all progress made), so I’m maybe more apt to have this position. However, there are probably many more people like you in your own country. Being seen and heard is a good way to be recognized, so long as you’re not at immediate risk of harm for doing so.

I wish that one day, worldwide, there would be no repercussions for being gay, we wouldn't have to come out, we would just say that we're in love, much like "hey mum, dad, this is _ my partner" and the gender wouldn't make a difference. Yet sadly, there are still countries where being gay is a death sentence... where it's safer to pretend than to be yourself. No one should have to live like that. :( That said, be proud, but never come out to people unless you are certain you are in a safe place or have a safe place to go. I came out to a "friend" in school who humiliated me, outed me to the school, and had me beat up. But I'm one of the lucky ones, my parents were ok with me being a lesbian. Many people out there are kicked out of their homes for being gay. It's not right. :( PS: Why is no one mentioning the panels with what looks like PB and Marceline? xD

It seems that many LGBTQ people are confuse rights with acceptance. All people should have the same rights, but that does not mean that all people will accept you. Having the right to practice homosexuality openly does not mean that everyone will accept it. And, honestly, that should be OK with LGBTQ people, but it seems that it is not. I think what LGBTQ people really want (what we all want) is love and unconditional acceptance, but that cannot (and should not) be legislated into existence. Luckily, that's what puppies are for. (Adopt - don't shop.)

Thank you for sharing your story - I hope the laws change in Singapore and you can be your true authentic self. Also, I like your comic story style; very simple but very effective.

:( PS: Why is no one mentioning the panels with what looks like PB and Marceline? xD

at least Singapore is not like Malaysia. it's safer to be gay in the closet here rather than face jail time just being how god made you.

I hope your parents accept you for who you are! I am pansexual, and questioning. Wishing you love (not in a weird way)!

My very best friend also gay. I don't know what his family think. But definitely not against. Didn't know how many relationship he had and this few years he find his love. Hong Kong also on the same situation, he cannot get married. The important thing is he is happy.

Maybe you gave up too soon? Certainly a large part of people managed to heal ... Try it, it is never too late.

Honestly, if more people felt this way as opposed to being violently in-opposition, the world would be a better place.
