Frida Is Strange Like Me: I Turn Inspirational Quotes Into Comics
I’ve been adapting famous and inspiring quotes into comic strips for a few years now. The project, called Zen Pencils, has taken on a life of its own and is now a dream full-time job. For my latest strip I chose the words of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
To be honest, I was not very familiar with Kahlo until a friend of mine suggested I work on some of her inspiring quotes. It was only then that I learnt about her remarkable life, powerful paintings and totally unique personality.
The main thing I wanted to capture in the comic is that feeling of seeing a piece of artwork for the first time that completely stops you in your tracks and grabs you by the soul, as if the artist is speaking directly to you from a different time and place.
