Colorful Cakes That Look Like Fuzzy Shag Rugs You’d Regret Stepping On
What can be better than a tasty cake? Cake thats not only tasty but also beautiful.
Alana Jones-Mann is LA based designer started sharing her cake decorating experiments in 2013. She creates incredible edible masterpieces that look like rugs. You read that right – her colourful cakes look like interior details fitting the most stylish homes. The artist herself calls these desserts shag cakes and it’s easy to see the resemblance.

These remind me of the hook rugs I used to make as a kid in the 1970s. Every couple of month my mom would get me a kit from KMart. Pretty sure I made a rainbow hook rug with a white background when I was 7 or 8!

I have a distinct memory of staying up all night doing a latch hook pillow for home economics class...homework slacker since the seventies!

I checked out one of her Instagram videos and she’s just using one of those pastry bag tips (forgot name) that makes the icing come out in bunches of little strings. She just squirts the bunches of string in different shape and color. Doesn’t really seem to take much longer than a traditional icing.
