Isla I think if people with gender dysphoria were mutilating their bodies that would be a time for psychological intervention, like in your examples. Gender dysphoria has been chronicled for over 3500 years (great article: https://www.susans.org/2015/03/03/gender-dysphoria-a-trip-down-memory-lane/). It's part of the spectrum of human identity and is not unhealthy or dangerous. What we are encouraging is that it is safe in our society to express this, rather than being imprisoned or murdered as these groups have been for many thousands of years.

If it's a danger to their health, then it's a problem . Anorexia kills. Not that hard to understand. Let people do what the hell they want as long as it's not hurting themselves or others (except their egos).

I took a class on this I med school. Basically, when you deny a trans person their identity and take away their acceptance, their risk for suicide gos up astronomically. But when parents/society accepts and embraces them for whoever they feel they are , their risk of suicide stays fairly average. So, unless you want to lose your children to suicide, accept them and find a community that will accept them too.

Gender dysphoria is NOT "on the rise" as you claim. We've changed. People aren't frightened of being denied jobs, being forced to live on the streets, or be killed because of it. That's the ONLY difference. /// People who talk about it are out in the open now.

In Canada, for many years, trans people were denied access to medical assistance or counseling for any aspect of their transition, if they did not dress and act in traditional, stereotypical male or female ("high femme") style for several years in advance of their transition. This is what made trans rights a feminist issue to me, a cisgender woman who was living her best life in baggy overalls and no makeup at the time. It's completely wrong to suggest that a woman or a man should look or act a certain way to be considered a woman or a man.

Right! I thought the whole tying your shirt up that high ended in the 90s. Mama needs to teach her how to wax that happy trail too, if she wants to be more feminine.

That would be seen as sexist if you said it to a born-female. We don’t have to put this s****y baggage on the people who transition to woman.

I personally know two female to male and just one male to female! I'm not part of the community so I'm not saying you are wrong, somehow it seems that male to female gets more media attention? Interesting observation!

It's harder to spot women who transgender to men than it is men that transgender to women. In this day and age..it's probably easier for a girl to wear guys clothing and get away with it than it is for a man to throw on makeup and a dress. It's not that there are more men transitioning than women..it's just more obvious.

I wonder if it's because it's easier for girls to be "boyish" than it is for men to be "girly," strictly from society's pov. A girl wearing no makeup and "men's clothes" does not stand out as much as a boy putting on makeup and a dress. This is not to say that it's easier or anything in either dorection!! Just an observation, too.

Because they feel weak as a man and would like to be biologically stronger than their “gender”. They transition because they would like to be ahead but can’t in reality so they create their own.

There's plenty of trans men, transphobes just like to ignore them in their "discussions" because it hurts their narrative of all trans people being perverted men "pretending to be women" to get into women's rooms.

Maybe you just don't notice because it's more acceptable for women to dress like men, so they are not as noticeable. Clothing choices are one of the few areas where men are held back more than women.

Two of my half brothers who has suffered from sexual abuse as children have gone transgender. The first one regretted his choice and changed back inyo a man eventually. The second half brother is getting his face done in a year and he does not seem happy to me.

As a MtF transgender with many trans friends in both ways, i can tell you that simply HRT (Hormonal Replacement Therapy) works SUPER WELL in the FtM way, so going from female to male is rather "easy" socially as you get quite manly (grow beard, voice change to deeper, loose hair, get muscles) while MtF is just growing boobs and getting fatter (and mental changes ofc) but you don't loose your facial hair, neither does your voice change to a more feminine...On the other hand FtM have it harder for all genitals surgeries...

Because for men there are two types of trans: self-hating gay men like Janet Mock and Juno Dawson, and sexual fetishists. The sexual fetishists don't exist on the female side. Trans "men" are increasing thanks to a HUGE jump in girls who hit puberty and hate their bodies, so they think they are boys. In reality, it just sucks to be female in our personified culture. Now, the trans community will deny all this but it is quite obvious when you really start to read their narratives, where trans "men" talk about their wife hips, etc. and trans "women" talk about how much they long to be penetrated.
