Chinese Nurses Share Pictures Of How Their Faces Look After Countless Hours Fighting The Coronavirus

Amidst the chaos of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in China, photos of medical personnel with sore marks left from their protective face masks have gone viral on social media. Bored Panda has already shared the photos that show realities of the medics working in Wuhan—exhausted doctors and nurses falling asleep on the floors of the hospital after gruesome and long working shifts.

This time, the medical staff in Wuhan—the coronavirus epicenter—have taken to social media to share photos of the marks and bruises left on their faces from the protective gear they have to wear round-the-clock.

More info: Twitter

The photos, which have left many people emotional, show not only the facial wounds left from wearing the necessary protective gear, but also the physical and mental exhaustion of the medical personnel. The images that were shared on Twitter have widely spread on social media and have successfully revealed the toll that taking care of the virus patients is taking on doctors and nurses.

The photos also show the apparent exhaustion of the overworked staff, who have been treating thousands of patients

Chinese media reports that the medical personnel based in the epicenter of the virus in Wuhan are currently working nonstop. Many staff members are said to be so exhausted that they fall asleep right on their hospital chairs and floors before getting up to start yet another tiresome shift.

As local media reports, the doctors and nurses have so much to do, they don’t have time to use the bathroom, let alone eat a proper meal. Meanwhile, they also must wear protective gear that is very heavy and tightly secured to help prevent infection. The suits and face masks have left many workers of the hospital with sores and blisters on their faces, as well as their bodies.

Reportedly, the personnel is so busy, they don’t have enough time to eat or even use the bathroom

The photos of the mentally and physically exhausted medical personnel have been shared on Twitter along with the caption: “Nurses take off their face masks after a grueling shift in the fight with novel #coronavirus, touching the hearts of millions on Chinese social media. Salute to these angels! #EverydayHero”

The photos have spread all over the nation, as well as international media and social platforms, leaving people extremely appreciative of the hospital staff working in Wuhan. “They are heroes!” one person commented. “They are angels, God bless them, noble souls!” another woman added.

The widely circulated pictures left people emotional and very appreciative of the hardworking medics

As the frustration regarding the virus grows, so does the local people’s dissatisfaction with their government. “We listened to everything officials told us to do,” one Wuhan resident told NPR. “We were so obedient. They said [to] go into isolation, so we sent [my aunt and my mother] into isolation wards. But let me tell you what these wards really are; they are places where you send people to die by themselves.”

Could they put medical tape or something to help with the friction or would that not work, bless those people.

The protective head/face gear has to fit snugly, to the point some nurses had to shave the sides of their heads, to get the masks to fit. Otherwise, the masks would be as worthless as the paper ones. The imprints show you how long they had to wear them. It has to be uncomfortable, as well as claustrophobic after a while. I can't imagine how tired they must be.

Yes they are heroes but that does make this something to praise and move on from. They're good people and will literally work themselves to death. The world needs to help somehow and send in replacements that can be cycled through and remain in Wuhan until things are controlled. It's admirable that these people are being so selfless but their suffering is clear and they should be supported

Do they not have proper fit tested masks? You would not see this in Canada, they are working their people too hard there

you think? -- well, if enough people get sick in a short time needing intensive care , these people will keep working trying to save more, as hospitals really are flooded with sick. do you think the nurses here would just leave and go home when their normal shift was over? i hope not. I wouldn't . as a doctor, ultimately you sacrifice to save people in catastrophic circumstances.

The true hero medic of China is the young doctor who first noticed a cluster of coronavirus cases in December and tried to warn fellow medics about it. He was then bullied into keeping quiet by the police. Li Wenliang died of the novel coronavirus on February 7. RIP https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/08/opinions/coronavirus-bociurkiw/index.html

This is why authorities tell regular citrizens not to wear a mask, few people realize how tightly the mask needs to fit to make an effective seal, and without a trained professional to show them and verify they fit, they'll end up with gaps and the mask will do nothing.

This happens when you live in a country without decent laws protecting workers. Your boss or government can just tell you to go this long, no matter the toll on you. I once read that suicide in Chinese factory workers is very high, but I don't have a source with a decent study for that.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this sort of epidemic originated in China. It's the high time to start taking serious and effective steps, anywhere in the world, to prevent outbreak of these epidemics, such as SARS, bird flu, swine flu, Ebola, etc. All these viruses are undoubtedly linked to "wet" meat markets where live animals, including exotic animals, are crammed in cages and are heinously, inhumanely, sadistically tortured and murdered. In China, and all Asian countries, it is believed that the more animal suffers, the better the meat tastes - talking about suffering!!!!!!!! Also, exotic animals are poached and killed for their body parts used in Chinese "medicine", which, of course, were scientifically refuted to have any medicinal effects. Who can believe such a nonsense? Who can perpetrate such a cruelties toward innocent animals - the sentient beings?? Why are these atrocities still happening in the twenty first century? Why???

I am sure the nurses and the doctors are working their tails off to help people and contain the virus. I am not so sure of their government roll in allowing this to happen and continue. I suspect much of the story is hidden from the rest of the world. and this has made it far worse.

Shame. That's horrible. Perfect opportunity for some genius to invent more comfortable PPEs. Those masks were obviously not designed for long-term use. The part that actually breaks my heart is that even though they have to suffer wearing those masks, so many of them have already become infected and passed away. It's a truly harrowing situation.

I am certain that nurses in the US and everywhere are equally dedicated. Surveys repeatedly show that nurses are the most trusted profession and rightly so.
