Here’s How I Think Chess Pieces Would Look If Each One Was A Person
Community member
I am a Korean concept artist who goes by the pseudo-name “Soo.K”
Always intent on crafting new unique character designs, I decided to do a personification of chess pieces by giving each one of them a human character.
I tried to put emphasis on the head designs and characteristics of each chess game piece, as well as, their functions. My overall goal here was to combine the familiar look of the table game piece with my own interpretation.
Naturally, black and white were heavily used for these cool characters, as they are primary colors associated with the game of chess.
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy these character drawings!

This lazy panda forgot to write something about itself.
Nice art, but please explain why all the men are fully armored up while most of the women are partially nude.
I was just thinking the same. For a change I would like to see ”sexy not at all helpful” armor on guys and fully armored badass women with no visible gigantic boobs.
Load More Replies...Thank you, Ashley! The Japanese animation and game industry is so vast that they have to offer all kinds of body types and fashion within their characters - both the infamous exaggerated almost naked boobs in the air (that are sometimes big, sometimes small), and the more realistic designs (again, various boob sizes and shapes), and the humble ones where boobs are not so accented.
@Daria B, that is exactly what I thought of too when I read these comments. They needed to see Fate Stay Night!
To be fair, the Knight has no armor, and neither the king nor the rook look like men (the king is some kind of wraith, the rook is a golem).
Only the rook is wearing armor, the Knight is very barechested, so really the bishop has more protection then the Knight, the rest are wearing something made out of fabrics, which won't stand against a blow...Why even bring up the whining about "men being fully armored and women not hurr hurr" when clearly, the other men are not fully armored either.
HEY!! ...U there... yes You! only the rook is heavily armored... because ...that's what a rook represents, a tank... a CASTLE. The knight has a bare chest... and the king has no armor on... really! Look closer PLEASE!
Oh my mom! Why is this comment downvoted? It's true. Look, I'd support your righteous "anti-boobs" views if this list was a parade of slutty looking women or pedophilia, but it IS NOT! We have 4 female characters here, only one is half naked, the other woman is sexy but very armoured, and the other two females are children and are not sexualised either. Seriously, what do you have against female bodies....
I was just thinking why Pawns are f*****g teacup girls and not like, armored militia. Keep them ladies for all I care, armor would just make it less disappointing.
Obly the queen really. The bishop is wearing a top that covers more than most mall goers wear, and the pawns are conservative and childlike. So really both male and female, queen and centaur guy, have a scantily clad figure. Props to the artist

So you have a problem with women being women and men being men ? It's the way we were BORN, Ignorant Panda !
Okay but I have a problem with woman wearing like two inches of armor when going into battle. That s**t won't protect them at all. Men on the other hand get decked out in awesome looking armor that ACTUALLY COVERS their body. SO THEY DONT GET STABBED? Y'KNOW, LIKE, THE ACTUAL POINT OF ARMOR OTHER THAN LOOKING COOL? The woman in drawings like this may look sexy, but who needs to look sexy when you're going into war? Woman's fantasy armor doesn't even look cool or badass either, just sexy. I'm all for some sexy ladies, but why can't we have some awesome ladies too?

Just because its awesome and biology tells us that. That's why there are more lesbian and bi women then there are gay men. Women are just hotter and sexier.
This is very cool and original. The queen did give me FF vibes, though, but that's just me. ♥ Keep it up!
Yeah, the Rook looks like the Alexander Summon crossed with the Iron Giant enemy that always shows up towards the end of each game.

Hey, Lazy Panda, how come you didn't spell out what "FF" means ? Not EVERYONE knows. How hard can it be ?
Annina, I'll do it without Google in a heartbeat. I'll stay within the fantasy genre of comics and games for obvious reasons. And I'll focus on titles with characters of diverse body types and fashion/armor style within the same franchise. So, here we go. Slayers, Septerra Core, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Age, Elder's Scroll (customizable), Neverwinter Nights (customizable), Zelda, Rayearth, Fate/Stay Night, .hack, Lodoss War. Here, that's a few from the fantasy genre. Need more? ♥
Nothing. They are amazing, at least imho but the thing is women are rarely anything else than boobs. No matter the size. Boobs aside there is rarely any diversity in when drawing females. Yes there are some, but not many if you are honest. Can you name a few without using google?
This is 3 years old, but still the same discussions are being heard over and over again. What's the issue portraying women in a variety of shapes and colors? Visually speaking, how would you identify Intelligence, Courage, Valor, Serenity, Wisdom? That can only be portrayed in text or dialogues, These are Chess pieces, and you are offended by the Queen's barely nude body, but think of it this way, She is the only piece in the board that if given the chance could obliterate you effortlessly. Imagine yourself being the Rook, that immponent Monster capable of wieilding a club the size of an structural column, but diagonally he has the Queen, her aura exteds all over the board and reaches you, She could be completely naked, trying to tease your gaze, but her dominance over you makes you look away, forces you to step out of her way. Her body was never the point, her presence is just enough to make your spine shiver in fear.
