“What a wonderful world,” sang Louis Armstrong once upon a time. And we at Bored Panda couldn't agree more. With 195 countries, there’s no shortage of places to explore. It’s truly amazing how one part of the world is totally different to another. That’s one of the wonders of traveling. You get to explore different languages, cultures, currencies and culinary delights. What you eat in Asia might not be the same as the meal you make in Antarctica. What you wear in Wales won’t necessarily be the same as your outfit in Western Sahara.

If you have a serious case of wanderlust but can’t hop on a plane just yet. Don’t stress. Bored Panda has compiled a list of the coolest charts that show incredible contrasts from places around the world. Keep scrolling to satisfy your worldly curiosities. And read about some of the history of world travel.

This! I was like "I wonder where is US, I'm pretty surprised it's not at the first place", then I looked down, seen european countries... "That does not make sense" I wondered... Then I looked up again and finally seen it. F*ck US healthcare.

Luckily the US doesn't have any of that communist / socialist nonsense. Caring for your fellow countrymen and women is so unpatriotic.

The cheapest non-insurance insulin in the US is Walmart and that is $25 a vial. (We had to scramble recently for a place to buy some without insurance). Even that makes it the most expensive.

Diabetics in the UK don't pay for insulin as its d**g a necessary fir life. In fact they are entitled to an exemption certificate for ALL medications.

I had to get on a charity program to pay for my Chemotherapy through Novartis who is the manufacturer. Even with Insurance it was still $3000 co-pay and without it was $26,000 for a 28 day supply. So they approved me for their charity program so I was able to get that one for free. I still had a ton of other d***s and I'm so far into medical debt that once everything is over I'm going to file Chapter 7 Medical bankruptcy. The house I live in is under my Brother's name, but even if the took that and my 17 year old car it would barely make a dent. I'm currently have over $400,000 in debt which is still being added too. I'm on disability, so NO I don't have a hope of paying it off. Every debt I owe is medical, because I don't have any credit cards, car payments and I'm having to split my mortgage and utilities, which is why I have 3 roommates, I can't even afford an apartment on my own. So that and taking care of Mom while she was alive is why I'm still in the Hood.

It's situations like this that prove the US is not a democracy, and that bs about "for the people, by the people, yada yada" is the opium that keeps the citizens subdued into thinking they have some control. The United States is all about corporate lobbyists buying off Congress to ensure they receive a *healthy* bottom line.

I live in the US. My partner of 20 years is HIV+ and I'm HIV-. It's so bad here that we've discussed the pros and cons of intentionally infecting me so I can access the kind of healthcare he has through Ryan White and similar programs. He gets colonoscopies, endoscopies, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication... everything I need to live longer but can't afford.

Actually US Prices are high not because of corporate greed, but US govt regulation. Professor Robin Feldman, who is the biggest expert in the US of Dr-ug prices has written extensively on this, especially in her book "Dr-ug Wars" where she shows how regulations around insulin created the prices. But that Pharma companies years ago lobbies for those regulations to keep out competition, before it ended up backfiring, and congress isnt interested in repealing it. In fact companies make less than $1 per vial in the US. States that put in caps on prices, all the companies do it put the costs onto other meds, raising their prices.

Not an entirely fair comparison. E.g. the average income of an Estonian is 50% of the income of someone from The Netherlands. Yet the insulin has the same price. In other words: I think SM has a fair point and I wonder why this Panda is downvoted that much.

Actually that's misleading. The cost in NZ is over $100 a vial, but we don't pay that. Most pay $5 per script item, some pay $0 for scripts (poor).

This really illustrates how dumb the maker of the poster is. Just look up actual cost, not to consumer. Australia pays triple per unit compared to US due to their poor trade and biochem infrastructure. The cost your seeing is price to consumer after government pays, ultimately costing taxpayers more.

Average income in the USA $80,000 per year, average income in Chile $30,000 per year. Yes, USA's price for insulin is ridiculous, but the amounts would be better represented if they took into account income in the country.

That’s the median US *household* income, NOT average of employed or of population . The national average salary in the U.S. in Q4 of 2023 was $59,384, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Of full-time employed.

And some even boast about having been to every, or almost every one.

Today, we can book a plane ticket using just our phones. We can find out about our destination long before we even arrive. We’re likely to know exactly where we are going. How long it’ll take to get there. What some things will cost. And what to pack. But it wasn’t always like that.

As History.com notes, “only 18 of the fleet’s original crew of 270 returned with the ship. Magellan himself was killed in battle on the voyage, but his ambitious expedition proved that the globe could be circled by sea and that the world was much larger than had previously been imagined.”
