Chapter 4
This is the rest of the chapter 4
“Well, um, okay. How come you didn’t tell him?” My mother asks, sounding a little curious.
Oh crud. I can’t tell her I’m dating a superhero, I think to myself. “Um, I wanted to get a little more comfortable with the relationship before I told him.” I tell her.
“Okay, and how did he find out?” Mum asks.
“Um, that’s the thing. I don’t know” I look down and my watch is beeping. “Um, Mum, I’ve got to go, I have another call coming in and I can’t miss it. I hope my buddy isn’t as mad as he is now at dinner, or i’m going to have a long night! Talk to you guys later! Bye!”
I end the call and push the blue button on my watch. A hologram of Kori appears.
“There is a situation at Serenity Square. Meet us at Chosen HQ.” She recites, then the hologram fades away. Looks like I need to suit up and get to Chosen HQ.
I swing out the loo mirror and loosen the two bricks behind them. I am able to get them out. I gently place the blood red bricks on the loo counter. Behind them was a hollow space. The excelsior school used to be a military fort, and there is a sealed off secret tunnel right behind the bricks. I look inside. There is my suit: all jet black, with kevlar plates and black titanium toed boots. I also keep a quiver of arrows, all specially equipped to do certain things. I, of course, have a bow, and a jet black eye mask. I put on the suit, and climb into the tunnel, I turn around (there is just enough room to do so) and reach out and put one of the bricks back in it’s spot, grab the other one and put it in the tunnel with me. I grab the end of the mirror and swing it back into position. I put back the brick and turn and crawl forward.
A little bit later I come to a hatch. I push it up and out. I pop my head out into broad daylight. When I found it I decided to tell the Chosens to magically reroute the tunnel so I could pop up and get to the Chosen HQ easier. I jump out, close the hatch, and watch in amazement as I hear a soft whir of gears that close up the hatch. It pulls grass on top of it and it looks as though it is another patch of grass. I turn and run toward the side of Mount Justice
The Harp City officials decided to name it that to motivate the mayor to uphold her promise to make Harp City a better place. The mayor decided to pick the tallest mountain of five that surround the city. Not only because the tallest, but also because she knows that it is the secret HQ of the Court of Chosens. The mountain is hollow, held up by Mel’s powers. She is the Chosen of the Earth. The earth will listen to her commands over anyone else’s. Kori is the Chosen of Fire, which means she controls fire and heat. Adam is the Chosen of Weather, and can make it rain or shine, cold or hot. Crystal is the Chosen of minerals and gems, and, for example, she can make diamonds grow rapidly around a criminal to trap them. She can also heal someone really fast.
Andrew is the Chosen of Wind and Probability, as well as Time. Have you ever seen Teen Titans? He is a little like Jinx, and Raven. He can make time go as slow or as fast as he pleases, and can make the wind stronger or weaker, make it turn in any direction he chooses. He can make people have bad luck too.
I run over to a branch pull it down. The seemingly normal branch is actually a lever that opens another hatch under a rock. It’s sort of security. The one catch so no innocent kid could get in: the rock hatch is on a inaccessible cliff. I grab my grappler arrow and my bow. I take aim and shoot.
Twing! The arrow hits its target. As soon as I get to the cliff I push a button on the hatch, and it scans my face, making sure I am actually am who I am, which is the Night Archer. This scan is top technology, straight from the Phonix Dimension, which is the most tech-advanced dimension and is also Kori’s home dimension, where she is a princess, 2nd in queue to the throne, after her older sister Myriad. She has Myriad and three other siblings; Myriad (Marie), Illusion (Ulysses), Enigma(Elise), and Guardian (Hermes).
The poor thing, she was pushed through a portal by her Mum, the wonderful Queen Athena. There was an invasion of the kingdom, by a teenage villainess known only by her false name: CyberSpace. Her goal is to rule every dimension on Earth. The last glance Kori had of her family was of her father, King Hector, fighting the mind-controlled palace guards, her older sister Myriad fighting the military chief she was engaged to, Illusion grabbing Enigma and Guardian and running to try to get them to safety, and her mother pushing her through the portal.
Kori hopes to one day go back and conquer her home planet and bring back under the rule of her family. For now, though, she training and practicing, so she can fight quickly and effectively.
The ring of the machine pulls me out of my daydreams. I have gained entry into Chosen HQ. I hop down into the hatch and hear it close above me. As I climb down the ladder I can hear voices. Familiar voices of the Chosens.
“Sore de, anta wa watashi no koto o sagashite, saibāsupēsu no nan’ninka no dansei ni yotte Nihon no bu ga kōgeki sa reta to watashi ni itte imasu ka?”
“So, you’re telling me that the Japanese Division was attacked by some of Cyberspace’s men, looking for me?” I hear Kori ask in Japanese. She sounds quite surprised.
“Yes, Nightfire, they are looking for you. They know that the Phonix royal family sent you to Earth A to keep the royal line intact.” Crystal answers
“Karera wa anta ga shinu made karera wa yasumanai to iimasu”
“They say that they will not rest until you are dead.” The Japanese Leader, Crane, says “Watashi wa watashi no kuni to watashi no busho no anzen o oserete imasu”
“I fear for the safety of my country and my division.”
As I quietly step onto the floor and turn toward the gigantic screen that shows Crane, Kori looks down for a moment and sighs. She doesn’t want to jeopardize this dimension, but then again, she feels as thought she isn’t ready to face CyberSpace. Before I can say a word Kori looks up and says in rapid fire Japanese
“Don’t you worry Crane. I will fight in Phonix and reclaim my family’s throne.”
“Shinpaishinaide, kurēn. Watashi wa fonikkusu de tatakai, kazoku no ōi o torimodoshimasu”
What she says next send chills down my spine
“Matawa watashi ga shiyou to shite shinu.”
“Or I will die trying.”
