We’ve all heard the age-old question: are humans inherently good or bad? That debate may never be settled, but there’s no denying the incredible acts of kindness happening all around us.

And some take it to a whole new level! Over on the subreddit r/chaoticgood, as the name suggests, users share good deeds done in playful, often unexpected ways. Think funny notes left in library books or flowers planted secretly in neglected park corners.

Below, you’ll find more of these wholesome moments and a chat with Brooke Tansley, author of Small Good Things.

Fake Free WiFi For Good

fesshole Report

Even though the term ‘chaotic good’ implies not sticking to societal norms, the subreddit emphasizes that there are boundaries which need to be respected.

The mods, who oversee a community of 331K members, say that rule breaking should be achieved without cruelty or intimidation. By their definition, embracing chaotic good means valuing not just your own freedom and welfare, but everyone else’s.

Wish they would do that in South Africa. Our black rhino population is EXTREMELY endangered. BTW, if you go to the Kruger Park or another game park here, do NOT geotag your photos! Poachers can find the exact locations of the animals you photographed.

It’s a good measure to start with, but it doesn’t really change the fact that the people who want the horns are usually the ones paying for somebody to get the horns for them, not the ones doing the hunting. These people won’t care if their poacher dies, they’ll just pay another one until someone succeeds.

Did you hear what Cambodia did after the Khmer Rouge fell? The men who had been indoctrinated with communist ideology and had used violence weren't equipped for the civil society the new government wanted to build. So they hired ex-soldiers as game wardens, protecting the natural habitats, capable of killing poachers, giving them jobs, and not forcing them to spend all their time around people. They could slowly acclimatize to a peaceful society.

Long time ago I heard an ad in radion like "wanted fit men, must have license for rifle and at least 700 out of 1000 points on 100 shots at 200 meter range, or license for machine gun. Willing to shoot on sight." It was protecting beaches where turtles laid eggs.

Not a believer of capital punishment in general but arresting these poachers, trying them, sentencing them doesn't seem to stop these greedy and uncaring mofos. I guess a few holes in someone's azz can persuade others not to make a buck in this area.

I used to chat with a guy online who did that sort of thing in Africa. He was an American who hunted down & culled poachers. The problem is that the poachers hired people to hunt down the counter-poachers.

I'm all for rhinos, but isn't this execution by arrest? The cop who killed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck was practicing the same policing as these guys. In nations of law, are the police supposed to appoint themselves judge, jury, and executioner?

Are you comparing an unarmed person who had done nothing wrong (somewhere I read he had stolen twenty dollars, but it's totally irrelevant) with a heavily armed person who is remorselessly killing the last specimens of a species one by one? Really? Can you explain the connection?

What is wrong with all you people valuing the life of an animal above a human. People don't deserve to die because they take an immoral opportunity to make fast money. You're promoting the laziest most hateful solution - and it wouldnt even work. There are many much better solutions. Here's two 1. Humanely remove their horns under anaesthesia which does them absolutely no harm then sell the product and tax it to fund the country. 2. Flood the (mainly chinese) market with fake rhino horn. The threat of death does not deter criminals in an environment where getting killed is an accepted daily risk anyway

Absolutely the wrong thing to do. Why the hell should these poor animals be brutalised for the sake of pathetic , idiotic humans? And damn yes, we should value these magnificent animals WAY above that scum. It's despicable and inexcusable. Taking the horns and selling them just perpetuates the whole disgusting trade.

Yeah, let's just execute people on the spot like it's 500 BC. I find it frankly disgusting how quick some people here are to s**t on fundamental human rights in their moral outrage. Probably also useless to point out the circumstances under which people resort to poaching.

Goodness can be a transformative experience. Brooke Tansley, known for her roles as a TV & film producer, actress, and entrepreneur, told Bored Panda that kindness turned her life around.

“I was feeling like I was in a sad funk and I didn’t really know how to snap out of it. I woke up in the middle of the night remembering that it feels good to do good things for other people,” she shared. So, she thought about her next move.

At first, Brooke considered diving into a volunteering project, but with work and two little kids, she knew it’d be tough to maintain. Instead, she went for a more manageable approach: practicing small acts of kindness.
