Audrey Hepburn, 1967
Photo: Terry O’Neill
Such grace and elegance. A day when stars where stars, and life had a touch of innocence. She was such a treasure.
She was, quite simply, pure class. As beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
I read somewhere that she was 5'6" and 86 pounds! After starving in her childhood, she never really learned to eat.
She was 5’7 and 110 pounds normally. Her weight dropped during times of stress, but I don’t think it ever went that low except when she was emaciated as a young girl. You are right that she was never really comfortable with food.

He's going on The Muppet Show, he has to outshine his co-stars somehow
Music has its Superheros and Elton is the greatest! The paper says, he will be there by helicopter, but it looks like he's planning on making a quick flight.

Ben, just because she suffered with her demons does not make her a dime a dozen, buddy.
Load More Replies...What she did in her personal life was entirely her business. What was irreplaceable was an amazing voice, a cheeky sense of humour and a top shelf lyricist who forgot how important she was, even to those who loved her intimately. A downward spiral because she was surrounded by pressurizing, tabloid, curtain twitching, finger pointing, negative trolls like you. So well done :)
As with so very many beautiful talents and voices, lost far too early, Amy was an old soul. She lived too many years in too short a period of time. There is a sadness that seems determined to infiltrate deeply talented and artistic souls. They search for a fraction of what they give out, to help them feel full. That search with the help of hanger on’ers, takes them to alternatives with deadly consequences. I miss these voices, and performances. Amy was one of the best ....
Everyone lumps her into the Legend category and she doesn't deserve that status... it's ridiculous
David Bowie And Elizabeth Taylor, 1975
Photo: Terry O’Neil
If he had wanted to be one in 1975, Hollywood was eager to make Bowie a bona fide movie star. The press was all over him while older stars like Liz Taylor were opening doors and pulling some strings, so to speak (and trying to glom on to him to boost their careers as he was gorgeous and young). But Bowie had an awful time of it in L.A., even though he was in a terrific, if odd, film (The Man Who Fell to Earth) and created a masterpiece of an album (Station To Station). He left a year or so later for Berlin, and took Iggy Pop with him. He never went back there to live, except for when he and Iman nearly moved there after their marriage. The riots in the spring of 1992 brought them back to NYC for good.

Cher, 'I'd Rather Believe In You' Album Cover, 1976
Photo: Norman Seeff
To quote Cher when asked ... “how to feel about getting older, aging?” ..... “It sucks”. I have always loved her humour and spirit. To all the youth if the world .... if you are lucky enough to age, be kind to everyone that crosses your path, as you too will age, get wrinkles, crappy skin, and grey hair. Cher still deserves admiration and respect.
Paul & Linda Mccartney, Cover Of Life Magazine, 1971
Photo: Henry Diltz
Sad that Beatles fans gave Linda such a hard time for "stealing" Paul. She was a talented phographer and a quite beautiful woman. Member of the Eastman-Kodak family.
She was NOT related to the Eastman-Kodak family. Her father's original name was Epstein.

Same. She always had the best body, and that hair! So beautiful and talented, too.

She went to my high school for a year; Arcadia High School, Arcadia, CA. Unfortunately, it was before I went there. I looked her up in the yearbook from that year, and found out her real name is Stephanie Nixon.
I would guess that “Nixon” would not be a good entertainer’s name, in those days. ;-)

Billy Idol, Max's Kansas City, NYC, 1978
Photo: Ebet Roberts
There's episodes of Marc Bolan's old show "Marc" on YouTube. Only one series of 6 episodes was made (in 1978). On the last one, not only was Bowie on performing "Heroes", but Billy Idol and his band Generation X made their TV debut. They had to borrow Marc's guitar for their set. It was a very odd show (to me, anyway). There was never a chance to do another series because Marc died a couple of weeks after taping that episode.

I didn't like her then, but times change, and I've gotten older and more experienced. Relationships don't always work out. John was probably not easy to live with, for either Cynthia or Yoko. It was what it was.

The music of my youth. Amazing what they had to endure at a time when life was far from ‘Rock Star’. Such a road they paved, and most survived, in spite of the c**p thrown at them.
What I never understood is how all these old stars had amazing voices while smoking like chimneys!
The effects of smoking can take awhile to catch up to you.
Load More Replies...Berry Gordy might be a villain on a lot of levels, but what he did at Motown with the in-house "charm school" to develop artists for interacting with the press and the public is something we could stand to have today. I know part of the reason he instituted it was so that his new young stars from less-than-well-off upbringings wouldn't seem "rough", "low-class", or threatening to middle-class white people in the 1960s, but everyone in the public eye should go through it, like "Home Training +".

Wow. If this was the end of 1980, we weren't going to have him much longer. I remember the moment his death was announced. I was 20 years old and working at an airport. I saw people come off planes, see the TVs showing the news, and just stand there, as shocked and silent as the rest of us were. I cried. The Beatles, together and separately, were a major part of my childhood and teens. I miss the music he didn't get to make.
I was 18 and getting ready for college when I heard it on the radio; I just started crying...
Load More Replies...This was probably only about 2 or 3 months before his terrible death. I wasn't born until 27 years later and I still love John Lennon, along with the rest of the Beatles. Rest in peace, John Lennon and George Harrison.
Keith Richards, The Rolling Stones, 1963

It's actually not that much of a surprise, if we can trust his writing in "Life" ... he may have used a lot of mind altering chemicals, but ... but he didn't overdo any of that, kept track of the amount he used, knew his limits and, most important, never bought cheap crappy stuff, always insited on top-end quality. Actually, opiate usage won't shorten your life, unless you effed it up ... there are other results that are likely not of the nice kind, of course, but the major threat you get from heroin is that you inject some blackmarket c**p into a blood vessel - not the intended stuff itself.

So many sad, depressed or melancholic eyes in this photo gallery, take a look again except for Steve Wonder and the group surrounding him, they seem to be having a good time

Load More Replies...These are great. I can't imagine pictures of today's 'celebrities' (and I use that term loosely) would have quite the same effect.
I want so many of those artists back--Aretha, Amy Winehouse, Bowie, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Whitney. Sigh.
Much, much better than someone simply photo shopping themselves with iconic- & legendary people and turning the spotlight on me, myself & I. The picture of Lana Del Rey seems the only 1 out of place of this entire series (I do think she is a good artist, but has no place between these legends, not yet at least).
I agree, Lana Del Ray sticks oit like a sore thumb and definitely does not belong here
