It's hard to talk about your problems, but sometimes, someone else breaking the ice can help. And despite one in five Americans suffering from a diagnosable mental illness, this is a topic which many feel uncomfortable facing.

These celebrities have all publicly admitted that they have mental health issues, have sought help, and want those who also suffer from similar problems to seek treatment.

Are you surprised by any of these revelations? Are any of them particularly inspiring?

i watched the Ellen show (sitcom) before she came out. I enjoyed it the first couple years. then Arye Gross left, it started to slide. THEN, she came out, and any semblance of humor left the show. I have no homophobia at all, close family member who is gay, another who is transgender. I quit watching because it wasn't funny and every single episode revolved around Ellen being gay. Ellen needs to face it, she didn't lose her show because of coming out of the closet, she lost it because her sexual orientation became her only focus and topic.

This explains a LOT with who he is as an actor and why he nails every performance. OCD will cause you to strive for no less than perfect, even when you don't even want to be. Damn.

The feeling dementors give people is based on the feelings you have whilst suffering from depression.

The cause is wide and varied. Hormones can play a part in a few cases but is rarely the main part. It's very complicated and a wide variety of approaching the cause requires monitoring and support.

This is so true. And worse when you're manic it seems fun and like people love you. And when you're down, its like they all talk behind your back.

In your opinion but it is clinically diagnosed. Which I was and it is hard to grow up with . It may not be depression or anxiety but if u read about it. It usually goes hand in hand with at least one of those. Good day

Interesting and sad how comedians are the ones to end up with depression. It's like they sacrifice their own happiness and mental well-being for ours...

I too have bipolar ll. And when Catherine Zeta-Jones went public with her struggle she really inspired me to talk about and help educate people about the ups and down of this sometimes debilitating disease. I commend her. She's an inspiration for people like me

I think most people are so egotistical that they take it as a slap n the face if someone isn't interested in what they say (even if that other person can't help it).

That was so cool of them to admit to their mental illness. But very necessary, so we can all let go of the stigma of mental illness.
