Which Celebrities Support Equal Rights For Women?

Contrary to popular belief, the U.S. Constitution doesn’t guarantee equal rights for women. As the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia stated: “Certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn’t.”

To guarantee that “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex,” Congress passed the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972. To become part of the U.S. Constitution, a proposed amendment must be ratified by three-fourths of the states; the ERA’s deadline for ratification was 1979, later extended to 1982. The amendment fell just three states short of the 38 necessary to become law.

But then Nevada passed the ERA in March 2017, making ratification just two states short.

To raise funds to support the growing momentum, feminist activists Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes announced the release of a limited-edition charity T-shirt, available at represent.com/equalrights. And multiple celebrities — including Joss Whedon, Gillian Anderson and Robin Wright — are showing their support.

Post your own photo on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #equalrightsnow, and find out more about the ERA at eracoalition.org.

Simply putting on a t shirt with a raised fist is like a hashtag. In and of itself, worthless.

Hey Otis, it's called being woke. when you buy the shirt the funds go to the ERA fighters who are working to get this legislation passed.
