A broken CD isn't much good to anyone. Unless you're Sean Avery that is. Because while most of us would just throw them in the trash, the South Africa-born, Australia-based artist turns them into various dazzling animal sculptures. He makes them by gluing CD shards to wire mesh frames shaped like different animals, and as you can see from his iridescent animal kingdom, there seems to be no limit to the types of creatures he can create.
“My sculptures are all constructed with recycled materials — old CDs, computer hard drives etc, so I classify my work as "sustainable art,"" says the artist. "They’re a lot of fun to make, but they take an extremely long time to finish, so I don’t do a lot of them.” Check out some of our favorites below.

Kudos to all artists using reclaimed materials. Art that reduces waste and becomes loved again as something new and beautiful... what's not to love about that! The kingfisher?/bird is amazing... love it.
One of the most beautiful and unusual re-purposing arts I have ever seen! Incredible!
These are amazing. And they remind me of how, when I was young, we felt like we have to handle CDs and DVDs with care, it's sensitive fragilw data, the smallest damage, the tiniest scratch, even your fingerprint could make it not work... And see them now, shreded into millions of pieces into magnificent works of physical art.
