Russian Body Artist Gives His Hairless Cat Four Tattoos, And People Are Not OK With It
A Russian tattoo fanatic dosed his hairless Sphynx cat named Demon up with pain killers to tattoo a series of ‘gangster’ tattoos on him, and now animal rights activists are shaming him.
“Of course I feel pity for doing it to him. It’s not like he wanted to do it himself. He has a different skin, so tattoos are applied differently,” Aleksandr said. “I hope it is not too bad for him, it is not his first tattoo. Usually, he feels fine and recovers from the anesthesia pretty fast.” The tattoos feature a prison tower, playing cards and a cigarette – all things that are typically worn by criminals in Russia.
Not only are many people shaming the body artist for tattooing his cat, but so is Elizabeth Skorynin – the head of an animal rehabilitation center. She said that Sphynx’ have very sensitive skin and any little injuries cause them pain and discomfort. Not to mention, that anesthesia is bad for Sphynx’ and the survival rate is 50%, which makes this whole case a question of abuse. However, Aleksandr Purtov, a local tattooist, defended the whole cat tattooing case saying that it was normal many years ago for farmers to tattoo their animals, therefore there is no reason for it to be unethical now.

This is sickening. It's nothing short of animal cruelty. Animals are living, breathing creatures, not 'things'. Every time this asshat did this, he could have killed the cat. And as someone said, sphinx cats have really sensitive skin. Those tattoos probably cause it a great deal of pain. The poor cat should be taken away from this clown, and he shouldn't be allowed to own animals again.

Won´t happen :-( first of all this person decided to buy a cat without hair - whats wrong already, then with plain cat skin in front of her she had the idea to do something with it and she found a guy who did it. There are 3 people who should not live on this planet : 1: the breeder 2: the buyer 3: the "artist"

But implementing a eugenics program to breed a new line of cats is less immoral? I'm not defending the artist, but I fail to see why a cat tattoo is less acceptable than forcing cats to interbreed so we can have cutesy animals.

Okay, this guy should not own ANY animals. If you've never had a tattoo, let me tell you first hand, it f*cking HURTS! Not just the process of getting it, but AFTER, you are sore, you scab, you have to constantly apply a special lotion, more soreness, the scab peels. Its not a quick healing process. This sweet innocent cat may have been "asleep" when the tattoo was put on, but bet your a*s the cat felt it when he woke up. This is nothing short of abuse. Would you do this to a baby? NO, so don't do it to animals!

This is horrible!!! Animals do have tattos, but it's their identification number usually, or marking if they are castrated... Doing something like this is just sick!

Police dogs, race horses, the occasional "show" animal (of various types) are tattooed. Castration is easy enough to see in most animals.

You don't just drug your friend, take him to a tattoo shop and get him a tattoo he never asked for. For the same reazon, never do it to an animal. NEVER.

He tried a different procedure? Really? I highly doubt that. He drugged the cat to have this be "okay." This guy probably gave himself tattooed balls because he for sure doesn't have real ones.
