I like to call myself a "Catographer" because it is from almost 6 years that I've been taking only photos of cats. I've worked on 2 main projects (Passions and the ongoing C-AT Work) before starting the Cats in Venice project that became a book in April 2018.

So during these years, I met a huge quantity of amazing cats, each one with different qualities and behaviors. I've always tried to catch cats' expressions of satisfaction, or Catisfaction as I like to call it, a sort of happy face or feeling (previously here).

This is what I like the most, when cats show some kind of happiness. So many people say that cats don't smile as dogs do... Well this is the proof that cats can smile as well!

So I did a selection of photos from different cat-projects I've realized during these years that resumes what Catisfaction looks like. I don't know if they are really happy or not but their faces in some moments of relaxing when they are really enjoying cuddles make me smile and give me a sense of peace that seems to be something like happiness.

I like cats because they don't do what you want them to do, they understand us very well but they just won't do what you are asking for. I think that's why people think they are antisocial. But what makes me happy is exactly when I take a photo like these: it is all so spontaneous, no one can tell them to 'be satisfied' and I realize that the moment is so precious and intimate. That's how Catisfaction looks like!

Cats know what you want. They just don't care. And that's not entirely true, either. Mine will hover like little nurses whenever one of us gets sick or upset.

If you give a cat your total love and affection also your attention, a cat can become the best buddy you ever have. Those who don't like cats have never really tried to become one's friend. Cats are the best!

Yes, when you live with a cat, with patience and time, you can recognize signs of affection. Every cat has its own way to show it so every relationship is unique:)

Knowing what to do doesn't mean it is fair what they do ;) but I love cats because they don't do what we want they to do :)

They're so darn cute when they do that head-tilt thing. Mine does it because he knows I could never stay mad at that, even if he eats my shoes.

My name is Marianna, I’m from Italy and I am not a professional photographer. I’ve always been a cat lover and my passion for photography came out when I adopted my lovely cat Arthur 9 years ago and I wanted to show his beauty worldwide. During these years, I found that photography could be the perfect language to express myself, especially black & white photography.

Mine used to bop her forehead against my lips every time I asked for a kiss by making little kissing noises... I miss her so much :-/

Aww what a shame, you have my deepest sympathy. We lost our bobcat a couple years ago, too, so I know that feeling all too good :(

At the moment I am working on my main photographic project dedicated to the cats of Venice of which the first book was published in 2018 (recently republished) and a second is coming out soon, in which, in addition to photographs, you can find the stories of every cat I’ve met. (I started it more than 4 years ago).

In the meantime, I am also involved in a project dedicated to cats living in work environments or particular environments (C-AT Work) of which I have published a series of 3 books.

Every cat has his own way to show affection. Nothing to be pretended, sometimes only be next to us is a sign that values a lot :)

It's when you look at your cat and you can't believe how lucky you are that this perfect little independent being actually chose you to trust and love. Chokes me up every single time.

There is a certain look that cat people have when we interact with our felines. I love this picture.
