Way back in 2015, a new viral trend popped up. People thought, what would happen if you put a cucumber behind a cat?
Some felines couldn’t care less about the vegetable intrusion, but others leaped high into the air when they saw it. Videos of such encounters were going viral all over the internet back in the day, as people tried to see how their own pets responded to seeing the bright-green vegetable.
However, it seems that in some cases, cats do not mind the said vegetable and quite frankly even like it. One such case was found in Finland where a cat named Mauri formed a special bond with a grocery-store-bought cucumber his owner Heli brought home.
Bored Panda reached out to Heli, Mauri’s owner to find out a little bit more.
“Ever since Mauri was a kitten he has always been very curious about any food I am preparing and usually he gets a taste of some cheese or meats. My usual sandwich has cucumber slices on top of it so eventually, he would be curious about that too and since I know cucumber is safe for cats to consume so I would give him a little bit of it every now and then. I think he likes how crunchy it is, because sometimes Mauri likes to crunch on iceberg lettuce too, but obviously not as much as he loves cucumbers.”

To see if Mauri would respond to any other type of vegetable similar to cucumber, Mauri’s owner had Mauri try and find a cucumber hidden amongst countless courgettes

“I never thought it was weird for him to like cucumbers because we used to have a dog who also loved cucumbers. For me, it was always a normal thing. Only after I started posting videos of him stealing cucumber from my shopping bag (because I thought it was really funny) I realized that Mauri is a pretty special cat with that cucumber obsession of his.
90% of the time we just chill at home. He lives like a normal house cat. In the summer we love exploring the parks and forests nearby. We also travel by train oftentimes to visit my family who lives a 4-hour train ride away.
Mauri is kind of a small celebrity here in Finland. He has been on national TV and news multiple times and sometimes we get invited to visit local cafe shops with him.”

Share on FacebookIt's not the cucumber itself, it's that they turn around and find something that wasn't there a moment ago. Any dark blob, especially snake like ones, will potentially do the same thing... scare the poor animal (usually) right after eating. At minimum it can upset their digestion & they can get hurt bolting from it, but it can also errode their trust in you &/or make them nervous, defensive &/or start "marking their territory". It's just mean and even abusive if overdone. And if they scratch you while panicking? It's your own dam fault!
