We Created An Indiana Jones Bridge For Our Cat

Let me just start by explaining that I am terribly allergic to cats and dogs. My family always had pets growing up and when I moved out, I was ecstatic in that it would finally be the end of any stuffy nose or blotchy skin. This new pet-less life worked out pretty well for me until I met my girlfriend Megan. Turns out, she is an obsessive cat lover. She worked on me for a while with her puppy dog eyes and I eventually gave in and we got our cat Ickle.

When we brought him home, we started looking online for the perfect cat furniture to outfit our home with for our new addition. We were quite discouraged by how all the cat trees out there looked really generic. The two of us decided to build something unique for him and with no prior woodworking experience (not even 8th-grade woodshop), we hand-built him his very own Indiana Jones-styled cat bridge. As you can tell from the photos, he dug it.

Of course, after we built the bridge, we needed steps up and down on both sides, so we started experimenting with different shelving designs and mounting techniques. We ended up building Ickle a fantastical cat wall and he absolutely loved it. He ended up enjoying the bridge so much that we decided to start building them out of our third story apartment part-time and selling them on Etsy. We received an incredible response from our Etsy customers and have since improved upon our original ideas and expanded our furniture line quite a bit. We’ve continued focusing on unconventional cat furniture ideas and in four years have turned our side project into a really cool business.

Although I never knew this was my dream, and often wake up at night sneezing, I love our three cats dearly and would’ve never had the opportunity to be doing what I love for a living without them.

My girlfriend Megan and I started building furniture for our cat Ickle. Our first piece was an Indiana Jones cat bridge. It turned out to be such a big hit with him that we decided to start selling it on Etsy. It's still our most popular product. Our goal is to raise the bar higher for cat furniture by creating more interesting and stylish products. We create furniture that's functional, with a lot of focus on design.

Perfect spot for a nap by the looks of it. Of course if you're a cat *anywhere* is the perfect spot for a nap!

This is just too cute for me... If someone would ask me; would you rather; ten kittens will be saved, but I will die? Or ten kittens will die, but I can live? I would definitely save 10 kittens!

I took a quick look at your website, and your creations are truly amazing! You obviously have a great understanding of cats' behaviour and needs and that is wonderful and encouraging to see. And the Temple wall complex is simply beautiful. If I ever get a cat, I would buy your products in a heartbeat.

Not a "cat person". Terrible cat allergies. I'm an itchy blotchy snot wad even with medication most days. Oh lawd the misery of the itchy eyeball. Have 5 cats. 5. Have allergies but zero spine. Can't let things die because people are a******s. They know I'm allergic and eschew kitty loving desperate for kitteh snuggles family members to sleep on my face and maybe see me die drowning in snot staring at a poop speckled cat a**s. Worst part is I'm attached to the furry itch demons. 2 are still up for adoption with standards no one will ever meet. 2 are my minions. Sisters raised by my pug. Cat pug minions go nowhere one I'm scared of. He'll murder me if breakfast is late, I'm not screwing with him. Even the dogs give Invader Skoodge a wide berth.

Pet allergies respond well to allergy shots and to Zyrtec, Benadryl, and other antihistamines. Really...the joy they bring makes the medical interventions so worth it. Your bridges are testament to your commitment. <3

Sorry to hear your cats make you sneeze. Consider maybe googling "histamine intolerance." If you sort out your health, you could enjoy your cats without sneezing.

A simple yet beautiful and elegant bridge you got there. Can tell from the pictures how much your cats love it. Do post more pictures if you one day decide to make more toys for your adorable cats (^o^)

WOW these´re great, but here in my appartment I wouldn´t know where to hang such one up, eventually I could hang one into the door frame, but high enough that I wouldn´t run into it with my head??? 😲😲😲😹😹

I wonder if these can be mounted on a fireplace with the right hardware. My fireplace we don't use for allergy reason and Southern California never cold enough. My cats took over that area and they have a tree there.
