Artist Challenges Herself To Draw Cartoons In Their Official Style, And Then Her Own (34 Pics)
#StyleChallenge invites artists to reimagine their drawing ideas in different cartoon styles, and Elena Manetta is one of those who conquered it.
This freelance artist from NYC drew some of the most popular characters in their original styles and then did her own take on them.
"Sometimes poses from stylized character designs don’t translate 1:1 to other art styles," Elena writes on her website. "Things need to be tweaked according to what you’re going for."
Manetta's unique art style is pretty distinctive. "I really like drawing overly muscular characters," she says. "I don’t know if that's obvious from my own cartoon drawings or not. It allows me to give a lot of curvy features to a man without making them look feminine."

Little Dog And Big Dog From Two Stupid Dogs
There was a character like the shaggy dog on the right in The Racoons animated series...really reminds me. 4c99883de8...22bb15.jpg
Blossom From The Whoopass Girls
Whoopass Girls? More like Powerpuff girls. Whoopass Girls is probably referring to their first episode which was called "Whoopass Stew". But yeah, this is wrong.
That is one of the powerpuff girl. Maybe they have another name for it in different countries.
Courage From Courage The Cowardly Dog
I miss Courage the cowardly dog! That cartoon is a lot more disturbing now that I am an adult!
I still have nightmares about the lady of the black puddle.....
Load More Replies...I like your style! Also love how clear the expressions are in both of them
I do not think he should be afraid anymore after having that big muscle
The original image on left, if flipped horizontally, will make it seem being scared out of the disturbing alter-ego...
Arnold From Hey Arnold!
I've heard stories about a re-boot or continuation of the series. Going with your style is probably a wise choice of the studio :D
I always saw the shirt hanging out of the bottom of the sweater as a kid form of a kilt!
Bill Cipher From The Gravity Falls
I can't tell if you haven't watched Gravity Falls or just trying to be funny.
Load More Replies...I am obsessed with bill cipher and you just made the original look 10000000000000001x better
Yes. Just hecking yes. This. This is AMAZING. Someone get Alex Hirsch onto here.
The Mayor From The Powerpuff Girls
He wasn't in the whoopass girls animations, he came in the later powderpuff cartoon on Cartoon Network
Gumball From The Amazing World Of Gumball
Nice work, very creative, personally I like the original, it fits the scenes
Very cute but I still like the old one better. Gumball needs to stay cartoony since he lives in the "real world" setting.
Rigby From Regular Show
Double D Ed-boy From Ed, Edd, N’ Eddy
Grim From The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy
Reminds me of the awesome online Snafu comic Grim Tales From Down Below. I wish they'd make THAT into a TV show!
Ren From The Ren & Stimpy Show
Ren & Stimpy gave me nightmares as a kid. Ren was absolutely terrifying to me (no lies, he still is). didn't even know he was meant to be a chihuahua until like 5 years ago. I thought he was a nightmre version of a rabbit.
Yeah ... I remember never being able to watch that show without turning the tv off.
Load More Replies...I'm kinda glad I don't know some new caroons if they contain such monstrosities.
Dino From The Flintstones
Classic mistake thinking Dino was a sauropod so he'd have elephant-like legs. Cool though, anyway.
What would Dino be then? A prosauropod because of its claw like thingies? I think the original has more personality.
Load More Replies...Bubbles From The Whoopass Girls
I like your new style but I enjoy the Girls having no fingers for some reason. If you re-watch it they always find a way for them to not grip things.
This is art. Art does not have any limits, it doesn't have to be anything.
Load More Replies...Dade From Harvey Beaks
Oliver From Oliver & Company
It looks like a kitten on the left, and an equally cute grown up cat on the right.
Jeff From Clarence
Yeah, it's always bothered me that the smart kid in this cartoon has a block for a head.
well, he's still wearing socks with sandals -- no real human being does that.
Load More Replies...Grizz From We Bare Bears
♫ ♬ It's the... bear necessities... the simple bear necessities. ♫ ♬
Marie Kanker From Ed, Edd, N’ Eddy
Buttercup From The Whoopass Girls
Dear editor of this article, PLEASE keep the name as "The Powerpuff Girls" ....
Again with the whoopass girls? Whaddya trying to do here? Make me crazy? Am I gonna have to Google this??!!
We know we've universally been mocking each one i have anyway
Load More Replies...Gordon From Catscratch
Marvin The Martian From Warner Dad’s Wacky Animated Shorts
Warner dad's wacky animated shorts I always called them the Looney Tunes. I love different countries for that
Daggett From Angry Beavers
Oh damn! I used to love the angry angry beavers as a kid! All these old shows were cartoon gold... *sniff*
I know! I had forgotten about so many of these but seeing the characters again almost has me in tears. I want to go home and just binge watch all of them. I'm just scared that they won't be what I remember they were anymore and I don't want to ruin those memories. That unfortunately happened to Sailor Moon. RIP. I still love it cuz I stopped after a few episodes and did a memory swipe on myself. Some things from childhood should stay untainted by the cynicism of adulthood...just saying
Load More Replies...Peridot From Steven Universe
Peridot: You clod! Why would you meep-morp me in such a style?! Although, I guess it looks ok...
yesssssss the BEST lime clod jellybean dorito child
Load More Replies...Rick From Rick And Morty
Her Rick look way friendlier than the original Rick. I bet he doesn't burp as much either. LOL
Maybe in the artist's country he was renamed on purpose. Morty sounds like "death" in romance languages, for example.
Load More Replies..."The Real adventures of DOC and MHARTI"? Isn't it called "RICK and MORTY"? I mean, yeah... it kinda looks like Doc from BTTF, but still...
Rick and Morty actually spawned from a parody of back to the future by the creator of the show
Load More Replies...Oof... this should definitely say Rick and Morty... anyone who's seen Doc and Mharti will know why!
One thing they could change on Rick that I wouldnt mind is his constant drooling!
Stewie From Family Guy
Reminds me of Disney Stewie in the multiverse episode! https://goo.gl/images/29AmiJ
Yes only original Stewie is Stewie...don't recognize that other guy!
This is where a line has to be drawn. Too much. Do something new. Don't just modify greatness:)) like the Monalisa being writen on by a child. Just horrible. No respect.
Wander From Wander Over Yonder
Waffle From Catscratch
Stimpy From The Ren & Stimpy Show
Flapjack From The Marvelous Misadventuers Of Flapjack
Ko From Ok Ko Let’s Be Heroes
One day he woke up and found out he had turned into a real little boy.
Riddler From Batman: The Animated Series
Mr. Gar From Ok K.o.! Let’s Be Heroes
Omi From Xiaolin Showdown
...Pow! Right in the kisser! (Continuation from Jeeves).
Load More Replies...Maybe I'm old, but I'd love to see some from my childhood - Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Sylvester the cat...
I prefer the new drawings to the old ones in the vast majority of cases (aside from. 14, 15, and 24). Nice job!
ooh i love these! you should do all of the characters from different shows! well maybe not all of them but the main characters
I love your style! I actually prefer yours over the originals!
Quite good. Just make sure to leave Ren and stimpy out if it. Everyone else is fair game.
I have to admit, this is a good idea for anyone who wants to set themselves a challenge in drawing cartoon characters. When it comes to art, I've never been great at doing much except the exact copies of existing characters (mostly from TV shows like "Pokémon", "Rugrats", "Looney Tunes", etcetera). However, I might decide to select a few random cartoon characters, draw their original designs first & then try & come up with my own personal idea how to depict them. It won't be easy, but it might be fun to try...✏️🎨 💭
