Oh my god, this infuriates me. We have a rescue dog - she used to be a mill breeder. She's old, people shy, has very few teeth and weighs only a few pounds. She looks like a little raptor - you can see her spine, butt bones, etc. She looks horrible, and to an outsider they might think we abuse the dog. But we literally *saved* her from abuse and are rehabilitating her, feeding her and I've been slowly earning her trust. She will NOT go out on a leash. It causes her untold amounts of anxiety and I only use one to take her to the vet or grooming. She goes on pads inside the home because of this, and by god if she wants to do this until she dies I'll let her. There is such a thing as nueraldivergent and/or rehabilitating dogs.

YTA. I was literally in this situation a few months back. I was on bedrest and couldn’t take my dog out and he had to wait for my bf to get home from work and he worked long hours. Sometimes your just in a situation where everyone has to step up and deal with it for a few months. The dog was not being abused and was still being taken care of, just not the way you approved of. You don’t have a right to butt in peoples business and tell them how to do things. If anything instead of being an a*****e you could of knocked on their door and asked if they needed someone to take their dog out for them while the gf was on bedrest.

The neighbors had better change the baby's diapers on the patio, or Karen will be calling the Child Protective Services, having seen no proof of them caring.

Ah, yes, the assumption that if someone else does something different or not like you would do it, it's wrong, criminal, abusive, offensive, dangerous, and needs to be called out. Or, usually, it's another stunning case of MYOFB.

Honestly not an A for being concerned, there's way too many posts on AITA or WIBTA where someone is most likely neglecting the dog or where the owners have straight up admitted to neglecting the dog and op wants to know what they can do or if they should do something. Same thing on r/dogs. The only reason that op is an AH is because she called the cops when the neighbor had already told her that they walk the dog. Being concerned and asking about it doesn't make you an AH, calling the cops and causing someone the stress of that situation when they've already explained themselves does.

One solution: OP could've offered to take the dog on more walks herself.

Perfect example of how some people have nothing better to do than waste valuable public resources on calls/investigations that are not emergencies and aren't even within the police purview to police! What did you expect, that the police would order them to walk the dog when you expected it to be walked, so you'd be aware of it?

Do you watch them 24 hours a day? I'm out with my dog 5am daily. I never see a soul. Let alone my neighbors. I work 8am-6pm and he gets a second walk around 11pm with my hubby or eldest son. Who in turn see very few to no humans. So maybe I never walk my dog! So yes very much the AH

I have a neighbor with multiple dogs & cats. This is pretty much the same situation but without the pregnancy. The dogs are never walked & are rarely outside at all. I don't care how many animals they have or what types as long as they're taken care of but getting no exercise can't be good for the dogs. This is a friendly young couple who I've never had any problems with & haven't approached them about my issue with their dogs. I haven't called anyone to report my concerns but have considered it. Not the police but animal protection authorities. Would I be out of line for doing so? I have a dog of my own & he's walked every day, weather permitting & he's outside as often as he wants to go, not only because he has to. Again, my only concern is for the health of the dogs.

She could have offered to take the dog for some walks like a good neighbour.

I dont take my dogs on wallks for fear of other dogs getting them sick, we let them go in the back yard and clean it up ever week when we had more {big yard} and now i got one small dog left, he is pad changed and each time he uses the pad its cleaned, he does it inside, because me and my family are to sick to go out and only one of us is able to bend and walk, If someone did this too me... im sorry i would lose it and see read and punch there lights out....

Well I'm glad everyone now knows that she is a bïtch now. I mean she has to seriously have some mental issues because it's delusional to think you were in the right in any way, or this is just a complete bs post. I feel like making a reddit account just to rip this bïtch a new one to be honest. I had animal services called on me because someone said I was leaving my dogs outside all day long. I have an all season room/ sun room/enclosed patio(whatever you want to call it) that leads out back which I spend majority of my day hanging out in. I leave the door open, which has a mesh screen door (that like cheap bug door thing) so my dogs have the ability to come and go as they please. They love being outside and running around the yard or sunbathing and I check on them every 30 minutes (sometimes less because silence is suspicious). I was enfuriated. I have a securely fenced in yard and even keep the gate locked at all times so noone can go in from the front.

NTA for showing concern for the welfare of an animal but this was a huge overreaction. I don't know what country the poster is from but in the Uk there are organisations which can be called to report concerns for animal welfare. I had to call about a neighbour's cat who had an obvious injury but didn't appear to have received treatment - someone went out to check and the matter was resolved, the neighbours were a little indignant that someone had reported it but i felt it was better to have trained professional ensure the cat's welfare and it got the treatment he needed so I'm not sorry for calling. If someone is concerned an animal is being abused or neglected then I don't think it's an AH move to check on their welfare but calling the police + continuing to pursue the issue after being told the animal is safe and well cared for is OTT.
