British Olympic Athletes All Have The Same Bag And Nobody Knows Whose Is Whose

Team GB may have returned from Rio with a record haul of Olympic medals, but unknown to them, one last challenge awaited them when they landed at Heathrow – trying to find their luggage. Because somebody decided to give all the athletes the same red bags, and as you can see, trying to figure out whose was whose was an Olympic event in itself.

“Having lots of fun,” wrote British gymnast Becky Downie in a video she uploaded to Twitter. “Spot your bag.” Other athletes also chipped in, with rower Alex Gregory tweeting “Anyone seen my red bag?” and silver medal windsurfer Nick Dempsey adding “mine’s the red one!!” Whoever was responsible for providing the luggage won’t be winning any medals…

This may be a silly question, but did they not have this problem when they arrived in Rio to start with?!

My guess is that either they arrived separately, or they were taken by bus to the Olympic Village, and maybe even had the bags delivered to their respective quarters. Upon their return, as they were going their separate ways, the problem became apparent

It's funny. But next time, if you don't want to go through the hassle, just use colour-coded Gear Tags. If there aren't enough colours, than decide on one colour / team, so you will only have to weed through, say 20, instead of 200. Eg. blue for swimmers, red for gymnasts and so on.

Can they allow the Olympians to decorate their luggage? Like put a ribbon on it or something?

One last day of fun for the athletes before they all depart.

This is why I decorate my boring luggage. I always know from a glance which bag is mine, even when somebody else has the same brand and color.

there was a study done with balloons that would work well with this. the study was the speed of teamwork. fill a room with balloons with peoples names on them, send people in one at a time and have them find their name only... only a few people were successful. then restart and have each person just remove 1 balloon and find the person whose name is on it. it took less than 10 mins for over 100 people to get their balloons. this is what needs to happen with this luggage.

I don't understand this..... why not just tie a colorful handkerchief to the handles that is unique to everyone else's??? That's what my mom did to spot her luggage at the airport for years. Is that against code or something??? Such an easy problem to fix.... Perhaps i'm not seeing the whole story. :/ *shrugs*

Somebody escorting them could have organised putting them in alphabetical order or name tags or placing them by team.

I was thinking 'did no one personalise their bag?' but if they were all delivered seperately from the athletes, then I guess no one had a chance. Except maybe in Rio, but then in their own groups they may not have realised the problem. Oh well, just have to dig through them all!

How is this any different than going on a deployment?! I had to wrap my bag in fluorescent green duct tape to tell my bag from others!
