Entitled Bride Gets Shut Up By Wedding Guest Tired By Her Whines Over In-Laws ‘Upstaging’ Her

I have already written more than once or twice that almost any wedding becomes one of the most important days in the bride’s life, but at the same time, it’s also one of the most stressful days. Precisely taking into account its importance. Because you want the wedding to be perfect, memorable for a long time… and sometimes this actually happens, but there are different reasons to remember the wedding for years.

For example, I think that the newlyweds from this wedding, described by the user u/Economy-Assist6973, definitely remembered this day, which contained so many events… And, admittedly, there was enough negativity there. So, let’s just read on.

The author of the post recently attended her cousin’s wedding and some real drama unfolded there

The bride set several clauses which seemed unreasonable to the groom’s relatives. For instance, the author had to go without her longtime boyfriend

Another rule for the guests was a ‘black tie’ dress code – so all the groom’s relatives complied, showing up in suits and posh dresses

However, the bride’s folks arrived in jeans and casual maxi dresses, while the bride herself wore just a midi white lacy dress

So the bride spent the whole wedding complaining over the guests ‘outshining’ her – until she got shut up by the author

This wedding was accompanied by many contradictory events from the very beginning. According to medieval tradition, if a military campaign or trade expedition was accompanied by some ‘unlucky’ signs, its date was postponed. Perhaps it would have made sense to do the same with the wedding, who knows?

For example, the bride demanded a child-free wedding, which was something unimaginable for the groom’s relatives, who have Albanian roots (the truth is – as a person originally from Eastern Europe, I can confirm that a wedding without the presence of kids is not a wedding at all!), and also stated that any +1 should be approved with her.

Thus, the long-term boyfriend and future husband of the author (and she’s the groom’s cousin) found himself left out of the upcoming wedding, even though he was essentially a member of the family, and for much longer than the bride-to-be. Of course, the OP’s mood was already ruined long before the wedding day… And then there was the strict black tie dress code for guests.

Well, a dress code is just a dress code, the groom’s relatives obviously thought – and everyone showed up in formal suits and lavish dresses. Imagine their surprise when guests from the bride’s side began to arrive one after another in jeans and flannel shirts, and their wives simply wore casual maxi dresses. The icing on the cake was the bride’s dress – a white knee-length lace dress from H&M. And now almost any woman from the groom’s side seemed to completely outshine her.

In addition, the reception took place in a cabin by the lake which had animal head trophies hung on the walls, and the DJ played exclusively slow pop songs and country music. Every time one of the groom’s relatives asked to play something from traditional Balkan music, this was met with hostility from the bride’s side.

The bride herself became gloomier and more sarcastic with each passing minute. It got to the point that she called the groom’s elegant and beautiful sister “similar to a high-end escort.” Fortunately, the woman showed miracles of patience and did not throw a tantrum right at the wedding table. But the original poster could not endure it.

The author publicly asked the bride to chill out, and when she responded that the groom’s side didn’t show her enough respect, the OP threw it right in her face that it’s not really that difficult to upstage the bride here, if only because she wore an ordinary casual dress.

A real scandal broke out, the groom is angry with the OP for completely ruining his wife’s mood, and now she is taking it out on him. Numerous relatives and friends of the author, both those present at the wedding and those absent, on the contrary, say that she did nothing reprehensible.

“It’s a really difficult situation – on the one hand, the guest clearly and completely ruined the wedding for the bride, on the other hand, the bride and her relatives obviously showed disrespect for the groom’s culture,” says Denis Tsikanovsky, a wedding host from Tel-Aviv, Israel, whom Bored Panda asked for a comment on this situation. “In any case, the wedding is a two-way street, so you always need to take into account the cultural aspects of both the groom and the bride – if, of course, there is some difference there.”

“As for the dress code, it’s pretty obvious too that the organizers should clarify what exactly they mean by ‘black tie,’ and how appropriate, for example, jeans are in this case. Be that as it may, any wedding is stressful for brides, so there have been worse cases. I hope everything is fine with the spouses now, and this woman managed to mend fences with her cousin’s wife,” Denis concludes.

The opinions of commenters on the original post were also very divided. Some are almost sure that the author was absolutely right when she expressed her opinion to the bride’s face. After all, if you write ‘black tie’ on your wedding invitation and the guests strictly comply with this code, then what kind of disrespect can there be against them? “Bride overdid it, is unreasonable, and just plain old mean. I feel sorry for your cousin having to live with that,” one of the commenters claimed.

On the other hand, some folks in the comments noted that the original poster was wrong in being judgmental, and that in fact all the participants in this story, both the bride and the groom and his cousin, are partly in the wrong. Perhaps the only thing that all commenters agree on is the issue of the dress code. “Don’t request black tie if you actually mean smart-casual,” someone expressed the general opinion.

Well, this is far from the craziest story related to weddings, believe me. And if you don’t believe it, then definitely read this selection of insane wedding tales. And in the meantime, feel free to tell us what you think about the situation described, and what you would do if you were the original poster. Thank you in advance for your comments.

The commenters’ opinions were divided here, but most people agreed that the ‘black tie’ code sounds 100% unequivocally wrong

Apparently, the bride's idea of "black tie" is dyed burlap sacks. Just so the bride is not upstaged ya know.

Balkan people take no s**t. Absolutely none. So this was the first lesson for the bride. Family is especially important and so is respecting your elders. David should have shut her down the moment she disrespected the culture. Why he is even marrying a girl who so blatantly disrespects his heritage and his family is a mystery to me. Any child resulting from this marriage will be denied half their heritage...
