“Zillennials”: 30 Posts From People Who Feel Like They Belong Between Generations, As Shared By This Facebook Group (New Pics)
Interview With OwnerGenerational discourse is pretty popular, even if it mostly exists for one group or another to pass blame on why, say, the diamond industry or business wear is dying. Self-proclaimed experts pass around sweeping descriptions of what one group likes and dislikes with supreme confidence. So if you sometimes feel like you don’t fit the many, many molds out there, you aren’t alone.
This Facebook group gathers the memes, life experiences, and situations experienced by those caught between being a millennial and gen z. We got in touch with the team behind it to find out more. So upvote whatever you find relatable, funny, or inexplicable, and comment your own thoughts on what it might mean to be between generations.

Same. Just yesterday I was explaining to my partner that, no, I don't have zero patience in general, I have zero patience with s**t that causes delays in whatever it is that I'm trying to do (e.g. ads running when I'm trying to watch a tutorial, or pop-ups when I'm trying to read information I need at that moment).

That's a really good question. I think most teachers would actually be able to answer this (at least where I love/teach) as they are taught to have differentiated lessons to cater for top and bottom students as well as the core. I had one student who was very behind in reading/writing and he had extra lessons one on one with someone trained in that area and when I was teaching him, I gave him extra time to catch up and didn't penalise him for unfinished work.
Load More Replies...My husband was one of the smartest kids in his class but he had the worst grades because he never turned in the homework, aced every single exam though
I mean s**t I was near the bottom of my high school graduating class, but I'm sure I could have given a half decent speech
We don't have graduations in Australia quite the same as the US. Our 'graduation' is usually part of our formal/valedictory dinner dance. We get presented our certificate but lots of people don't invite parents, just want to have a good night with friends and we don't do speeches usually, except maybe by the principal. We don't generally get our final marks until at least a month after this. (At least in my state)The certificate we are presented with is the one that says the school regards us as having graduated. We get our official, state endorsed, certificate in the mail with our final marks. The Dux (valedictorian) usually comes to the school presentation night the following school year and does a speech to the students still at the school about working hard etc and what it has enabled to go on to study. The year level after mine the overall scores were so low they either didn't award a dux, or they just didn't invite them to come and speak.
This might vary from place to place in Australia. In QLD we used to have a graduation night where we all got our certificates, and at least a couple kids gave speeches. School captain and sports captains from memory. My youngest sisters had something similar recently (in the last five years or so), though they went to a private school (I went to public). I honestly thought it was a waste of time. Why would I want to waste most of an evening just to get a piece of paper telling me how well I did?
Load More Replies...Bored Panda contacted the folks behind the "Born Zillennial" page to find out some more. First, we wanted to know about its origins. "Born Zillennial was created for the BZ Creator Matt Duffy’s UF grad school course, Social Media Community Management. The goal for the assignment was to recruit 100 members, and after one TikTok went viral, the community quickly gained over 20,000 members in a 24-hour period. We now have almost 210,000 members since it was created in the Fall of 2020."
A natural question when it comes to subgroups is how deep does it go, so we asked if Zillennials themselves fall into smaller categories: "For the purposes of our group, anyone that can relate to the content shared in the group is more than welcome to partake. 58% of our group is ages 25-34, with 1996-1998 being the largest demographic in the group. That being said, we don’t have any specific subdivisions within the group that we label any further."

How Many Of You Feel This Same Way?
My husband planned a date night to see a musical quartet. He said it started at 9. I said, "At NIGHT?!"
Not me, nowadays I pretend I'm going to get sleep only to spend the whole night tossing and turning while thinking of every embarrassing mistake I've ever made and thinking about stupid questions like what if air wasn't invisible or what it'd be like to Jenga a real building
I'm still young enough to start a movie as late as 930. If it's after 930, I'll just watch 2 episodes of a 40min TV show because somehow that's better 🤷🏻♀️
20.00 news 20.15 movie ... we don't talk about days when we seach for a movie and settle at 20.50 for one of the 5 most watched on our list
Nah, never would have done that at 18. In fact, by 19 most of my friends were over going out late and drinking much at all.
Me at 13: "what do you mean, 7 hours is a lot? I can't function under 8.5 hours!" Also me at 13: *gets 7 hours of sleep* I just couldn't function 98% of the time I guess? Though that's still true tbh...

Of course, it's always important to consider how useful these terms are for understanding a group. "Overall, generational tags are not always super accurate because there are so many other factors that affect a person’s identity, whether it’s where they grew up, the person they grew up around, and many other socioeconomic factors. For example, some of our members are born in 2000 but have siblings that were born in 1992, and they are familiar with the content that other people in 2000 may not know about. We use the term Zillennial since it is encompassing the two major generations that impacted us growing up, and we are proof of how generational tags are not always accurate." You can find more about Born Zillenial on Instagram, Twitter, and their site here.
To add another potentially confusing word into the mix, sociologists sometimes refer to “cuspers,” as in people on the cusp of being part of one generation or another. Like the zillennials here, people born at the tail end of one generation will often have a mix of the traits possessed by both. Xennials are another example of “cuspers,” people who do not feel like they are quite fully gen x, but also not millennials.
I Remember That Nice Warm Feeling Of A Freshly Burned Cd
Yeah when I first heard that phrase I thought it literally meant setting your cds on fire.
I did lose a PC to a cd writing issue, so not that much of a figure of speech.
Load More Replies...I was protesting against music publishing corporations and the fact, they have much more profit of the CDs, than the artists.
Burning CDs doesn't compare to copying floppy disks. Copying floppies meant bicycling to a friend's house with a box of blank floppies, eating junk food, playing D&D, and setting off firecrackers in the backyard while the computer copied your friend's games.
Only time I had a copied a floppy disk, my friend just mailed it to me :)
Load More Replies...Huh, never thought about it. In German the two are two different words. Burning CDs would be „CDs brennen“ and burning anything would be „verbrennen“… sooo… no confusion
I had one of the fancy burners that had a printer in it so you could add your own logos and whatnot. My personal favorite was a mix of Naruto opening themes with a poorly cropped jpeg of the Naruto logo.
I feel even older--I made mix tapes, and "recorded" TV shows by putting a cassette tape player beside the TV so I could listen to them later.
Not Green Day
My sister once told me about this new up and coming band, it was Areosmith
Some kid at a music store asked my husband when AC/DC was going to release a new record
Load More Replies...Are they the ones from it's a new dawn, it's a green day, it's a new life?
My grandkids came in from a concert and asked me who's concerts I went to as a teenager. They were shocked when I said, Jimi Hendrix and lost their minds when I said tickets were $3. I still have the poster as proof.
Still have a $4 ticket stub for Jefferson Airplane hanging on my cork board!
Load More Replies...My kid found this great new band they were excited to share because it "sounds like something you'd listen to." It was Fallout Boy. Which I do listen to.
My stepsons in the 90s trying to introduce me to _their_ music: "Have you heard of this band? Led Zeppelin?" "What about Black Sabbath?" ME: "Oh, you mean the bands you used to whine about me playing five years ago? Nope. Never heard of them." (From then on, we had a battle of what was cool and what was too mainstream. I kept going back until I got them into Muddy Waters and Lead Belly.)
A good aunt would bond by sharing a self created good music playlist
Correct me if im wrong, but Green Day was inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame some years ago, yes? How can they be "kinda underground" with that status??
I Feel Like This Is Scary Accurate For All Of Us
no no no, you needed to buy a house in 2009! buying in 2005 means you overpaid!
That's what I was thinking! And I bought mine in 2011, which was even lower than 2009.
Load More Replies...In general, the study of differences between generations is quite old, as most even unrelated surveys will still care about age as a demographic measure. But it’s only relatively recently that scientists started creating specific terms to describe large groups. Generally, gen x was the first to receive this treatment, which was applied retroactively to baby boomers who were quickly “reduced” to just boomers.
Despite the two very separate labels, millennials and gen z do often have more in common than different. Both are global generations, connected, generally all the time, to other people via the internet. This is just as true of current gen x and the baby boomers, but the two aforementioned groups grew up with the internet. Zillennials in particular, being on the younger edge of millennialism generally fall into the category of digital natives.
Both generations also have, at some level, experienced at least one crisis, from 2008 to Covid 19. This economic upheaval has left people less optimistic and with less faith in the economic system in general. However, both cohorts, and by extension millennials, benefit from the ocean of information out there, gaining skills, knowledge, and other benefits from the internet considerably faster than they would have from a traditional means of education.
In Retrospect I Shoulda Done It

Felt Like This Belongs Here For Those Of Us Pushing 30+
We were watching Lockwood and co on Netflix and they are so British it's hard to understand them and my sis asked for subtitles and my mom said no and she was like cmon I don't understand what they're saying it's like they're speaking another language!
I have this problem too! I like British movies but my Southern US dialect doesn't seem to mesh well with them.
Load More Replies...Was watching something on Netflix and they started talking in a foreign language. Subtitles said: “speaks in a foreign language”. Me: frantically trying to turn on subtitles, so I can *hear*. Hubby: “The subtitles *are* on.” Me: “No, they’re not.” Hubby: “Yes, they are. Thats why it says ‘speaks in a foreign language’.”
I started using captioning so I wouldn't bother neighbors by watching TV late at night in an apartment complex with thin walls. Now I'm genuinely confused by NOT seeing captions
It amazes me how often I'll watch a movie i've watched a dozen times before, but now with sub titles, and I finally catch something I've never heard (or heard correctly) before.
We spent a lot of time at a deaf friends house hanging out. Captions always on. Well we got so used to it we usually have captions on now. It helps you not to miss things. Especially with 2 loud children running around.
It’s not all similarities though. Sociologists have found that the vast majority of millennials put themselves into the millennial generation by default. Even among the technologically inclined millennials, zillennials are particularly adept, displaying a lot of creativity and skill in the digital realm. While they might not be true digital natives like gen z, by the time they were old enough to actually properly interact with the world, technology and the internet was in widespread use.
Nah That Looked Great I'd Get Them. I'm Cringe And I'm Free
I was trying to find some pics of myself in bad outfits recently (for another bp post) and I found I really had few pictures of myself in the great outfits, let alone bad ones. I wish I had some like these! I want pictures of me in my cool multicoloured cords or flares, my shirts that looked like corsets, shirts with funny text on them (like, I'm the hotter friend) etc.

That And 90's Music Being In The Classic Rock Genre Is Killing Me
Let me just say I'm extremely grateful that this zillennial is becoming a thing (is it?) because I was born in 2000 and my childhood had absolutely nothing to do with the >2002 people
Yes! Me too, being born in 2000 is a weird feeling.
Load More Replies...I love that it is! My sister (born in 1999) had a Y2K themed 21st and it was awesome! I got to crimp my hair and use butterfly clips and fake multi-coloured braids again. I even had some make up left from that time I could use!
Zillenials also stand out in the sense that they are the one “cusper” generation most likely to actually see themselves as a separate, distinct “minority” generation. The existence of the “Born Zillennial” group is ample evidence that there is a segment of the population that most definitely wants to not be lumped together with the industry-destroying millennials or always-online zoomers.
No One Warned Me

They might in some ways find a lot in common with the xennials, those born between the millennials and gen x. While zillennials are very comfortable with technology, they could still be seen as digital immigrants, as they weren't quite the “Ipad kids” of today. Both xillennials and zillennials, which sound way too similar when spoken out loud, are a bit cynical and not quite as optimistic as millennials. If you want to keep exploring these generational questions, check out our other article here.

I feel even worse. When I went to college, I was so proud that I had a "portable" computer. It was a TRS-80 Model 4-P, which was essentially a glorified word processor--no internet, no anything, and it was the size and weight of an old-time portable sewing machine.
Not Only Did My Parents Have This, But They Gave It To Me As My First Alarm Clock
Mom's had analog numbers. Like a flap came down every minute to change the digits.
I wonder how my folks could sleep through something making that flipping noise right next to their heads every single minute in the middle of the night but could hear me mutter something under my breath from the next room while I was vacuuming the carpet with the stereo on full blast.

I forgotten what is like to wake up to the radio, instead of some some dumb phone chime. 2002 first time i woke up in college to an alarm was one those blasting out Maxi Priest I just want to be close to you.
I still have a white version that I got from my Memaw's house when she had to go to the nursing home about 2 1/2 years ago. I just use the clock part and could use the radio "Incase of emergency" because it has a 9V battery. I live in an area prone to hurricane and tornado so you never know.. Anyway it's still works!!

Oh…each Year That Goes By There Seems To Be Something That Becomes “Antique”
Pokemon cards are considered antique??? My brother still collected them around 2015.
My husband & I stopped at an antique store in Anacortes, WA. We were geeking out over all of the toys we used to play with when we were kids (he was born in 1958, me in 1963). The owner says, "Oh. I see you've found our Vintage Collection", with a perfectly straight face. Kinda f*cked up the rest of the day.
My step son is still collecting these .... I also have a deck and we play each other.

In my household it was always the educational shows on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). I especially loved Behind the news.
For a few years I worked at a TV sports network, and we all had little tvs in our cubicles (supposedly to watch one of our networks channels). The dept I worked in took a collective "break" just to watch Jerry Springer together! We'd make popcorn and pull our chairs into the largest cubicle. It was a lot of fun.

None of these. My favourites were Avatar the last airbender, Rugrats, Kim Possible, Fairly odd parents, 6Teen, Daria...
None of the above- I grew up with cartoons (Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Show, The Pink Panther/Rocky and Bullwinkle, Hong Kong Fuey) , which weren't "serial" but I watched them while eating cereal, especially on Saturday mornings! And, some of the "commercials" were educational animated shorts like Schoolhouse Rock. There was another that promoted health. https://youtu.be/MdTbsvBJxSo?list=PL5CHGL0WjUrTSg5C9oLwSLliclsW4kL4O
