When I went to the second back to school night for my kids, I actually asked this question in the science class. I said no disrespect and I'm sure you all do wonderful things. But what are you doing for the C students?

I mean s**t I was near the bottom of my high school graduating class, but I'm sure I could have given a half decent speech

We don't have graduations in Australia quite the same as the US. Our 'graduation' is usually part of our formal/valedictory dinner dance. We get presented our certificate but lots of people don't invite parents, just want to have a good night with friends and we don't do speeches usually, except maybe by the principal. We don't generally get our final marks until at least a month after this. (At least in my state)The certificate we are presented with is the one that says the school regards us as having graduated. We get our official, state endorsed, certificate in the mail with our final marks. The Dux (valedictorian) usually comes to the school presentation night the following school year and does a speech to the students still at the school about working hard etc and what it has enabled to go on to study. The year level after mine the overall scores were so low they either didn't award a dux, or they just didn't invite them to come and speak.

At 23 I was staying up past 3-4am. At 28 I'm in bed at 10.

I was protesting against music publishing corporations and the fact, they have much more profit of the CDs, than the artists.

Burning CDs doesn't compare to copying floppy disks. Copying floppies meant bicycling to a friend's house with a box of blank floppies, eating junk food, playing D&D, and setting off firecrackers in the backyard while the computer copied your friend's games.

Huh, never thought about it. In German the two are two different words. Burning CDs would be „CDs brennen“ and burning anything would be „verbrennen“… sooo… no confusion

I feel even older--I made mix tapes, and "recorded" TV shows by putting a cassette tape player beside the TV so I could listen to them later.

At least in the 90's when we also liked Hendrix and Doors and all that, we KNEW they were old stuff. "Underground". "Dookie" sold more than 20 million copies, you dumb kid.

My grandkids came in from a concert and asked me who's concerts I went to as a teenager. They were shocked when I said, Jimi Hendrix and lost their minds when I said tickets were $3. I still have the poster as proof.

My kid found this great new band they were excited to share because it "sounds like something you'd listen to." It was Fallout Boy. Which I do listen to.
