The only thing I think that should be addressed here is that an old man told her he was yelling at her because she was a woman. I am a grandmother, and I have started telling people with outdated attitudes, "Is this how you want your wife, daughter/granddaughter treated?" The vast majority of people immediately stop the unacceptable behaviour. Sometimes I run across people who tell me they wish women knew their place, to which I reply that I do, it is protecting my family, providing for my family, and it's too bad that they don't know how to protect theirs. It's never gone further than that. I spent part of my life backing down, but I will move mountains to protect my family and my grands!
