Italian Artist Uses His Body As A Canvas To Create Convincing Optical Illusions (35 New Pics)
If a body is a person's temple, then Lucas Luce's body is one of the most illusory temples there are. But don't fret, for it is merely a ruse. The Italian makeup artist practices his art on himself, and for what it's worth, they are really convincing. Some of them are so real that it's even somewhat creepy: his body seemingly bends and twists and glitches out to create spacious 3D illusions. What probably makes them so realistic is that Luca has a good eye for shadows and highlights, as well as hues and cues. And if you still don't believe your eyes, perhaps some videos will make it more believable? You can check out the artist's TikTok and Instagram to see the intriguing details of his transformations. If you think you recognize him, that's probably because you've seen the post here on Bored Panda from a few years ago. Or it could be his own post showcasing his works on hands.

The 42-year-old artist from Milan isn't new in his field. He's been working as a TV celebrity makeup artist for more than 20 years, and has tons of experience elsewhere too. But in 2014, he wanted to try doing something new that he wasn't used to back then: he started doing optical illusion makeup that you're seeing here today. First, he started using his hands as a canvas, and eventually moved to his head and face. Almost 7 years later, Luca still does them, and the results are mind-boggling.
The artworks featured here today include his makeup paintings on his hands and head. Though the hands and head are different as canvases, Luca's talent shines through just the same. He can do all sorts of stuff, ranging from realistic-looking animals, creepy horror makeup, to realistic-looking geometric illusions that twist the proportions of his hands and head. And that's just a few examples of his seemingly unlimited makeup skills. He's not planning to stop any time soon, so we can expect even more interesting experiments!
Luca's been doing great ever since the last time we featured him. Luca has a solid 379k followers on Instagram, and even 1.2M followers on TikTok, all of whom enjoy his riveting and creative makeup videos, some of which even went viral. If you love what he does and want to support the artist, check out his social media links and follow him, as that would greatly help him.
Up for more amazing makeup posts from Bored Panda? No problem! For starters, after Luca's surreal works, let's settle back down into something more realistic but no less magical. For example, check out these makeup transformations done by a Russian artist. And this artist just loves to mimic insects for makeup inspiration. If you want to compare Luca to someone else, here are some of Emma Van De Peer's makeup works just for the occasion.
