Most dog owners probably know the struggle of taking the perfect pic. You've spent ages coming up with the right angle and positioning your pup in just the right place. Then, you've got to be quick to snap them while they're being still. Sounds impossible, right?
If you're a millisecond too late, you're sometimes left with nothing but a blurry mess. However, in some cases, that blurred mess can become the most unintentionally hilarious piece of dog media ever seen to mankind. The first thing to consider is lighting. Natural lighting is almost always your best bet. What's more, it can be really in tune with photographing your pup in nature: don't pets always look the best when they're surrounded by spring flowers, autumn leaves, or snowy tree tops in winter?
Professionals say that the best time to photograph outdoors is golden hour. That's the period of time either shortly after the sun comes up or just an hour before sunset. If that's not an option, choose the shade. And if you're indoors, make sure your pet is facing a window. Unless, of course, you're aiming for the questionable quality aesthetic on purpose.

Ohh yeh I love this breed i got one when I signed this contract with this disabled guy. I don't really remember the details. When i went home he just appeared out of nowhere from a vortex like that. The guy's name was cuthu...something. It was kinda strange. The contract was written on old parchment with red viscou still drippy inc...The dude was probably insecure about how he looks...As he wore a hood and was hunched to hide his face and multiple "strangely flexible" arms... I hope he can be confident to be himself one day! Anyway the dog has been a blessing. My first born went into a coma around that time...Still no sign of waking up... The doctors are puzzled. I dont know if i could have handled without this fur ball of wholesomeness. I just love the way he warps and teleports all over when excited! The a*****e neighbour who was a thorn in my side for years stopped bothering me when my warpy chased him one day. I think he decided to move! Good riddance i say!

If you're photographing outdoors, such unwanted distractions would be garbage bins, other people and other pets. You should even clean up the natural surroundings if it fits your vision for the photo. That means removing sticks and leaves from the ground. That way, your pup is the only object in the photo that draws the eye!

I'm laughing more at how incredibly cheesy that Santa setup is. A fold up cardboard backdrop with the advertising baked into the photo, a single poinsettia, and a skinny budget Santa. Not even a chair for him to sit in. Though lower left hints there might be a crappy chair in the general vicinity.
Pet photographer Allison Mae writes that a good way to check if there are any distractions in the background is to hold your hand at arm's length where the shot will be and see if anything else but your hand draws unwanted attention. She also recommends finding a background that contrasts the color(s) of your pup's fur. That'll make them stand out even more!

Here's one more tip for those who are just as unsavvy with phone photography as I am – control the exposure! This is a must for owners whose pets have dark fur, as the light sensors in the phone's camera can have a hard time determining the correct exposure. "Tap the subject of your photo so that a sun icon appears. Drag the toggle up to increase the brightness or down to make it darker," Allison Mae recommends.

This photo actually gives you a REALLY good look at how unhealthily brachycephalic a Pug is. Its muzzle and nose are horribly short and its eyes are bulging out. Pugs, Frenchies, and other brachycephalic dogs are VERY prone to ocular proptosis - meaning their EYES POP OUT of their sockets. This can happen when they sneeze, when they're squeezed, or even if they run into another dog or a door or a table or anything while playing. Brachycephalic dogs are extremely unhealthy and have a large number of health issues. It's very sad for the poor dogs.

Not all short faced dogs with large eyes have that prob, boston terriers don't... stop hating... they cute af and I've had 6 of them and none have had eyes pop out or breathing probs. All of them looked like they got hit in the face with a shovel too, just mind ur business and get what kind of dog u like and let other peeps get what kind they like and stfu.

Professional photographer Laurie Clouthier told the AKC that this is a great way to capture your pet mid-movement. Go pet your dog. Now pull gently on some of the fur/skin of its neck area. Your dog exists in a bag of skin and fur for its own safety. Your dog is a furry skinbag. You're welcome XD For real, though, both cats and dogs are only loosely "connected" to their skin. They kind of exist inside a bag of skin/fur. This means that when a predator/rival bites them, they get a mouthful of skin and fur and usually don't manage to sink their teeth into muscle tissue or vital organs, and the cat/dog can sometimes thrash free with minor injuries. It also means doggos look really silly when you stretch their cheeks/face skin to the sides! XD
