In the Netherlands, the word for a farmer (boer) can be used as a curse word. It means being rough, bad-mannered or blunt. While many people don’t even know what it truly means to be a farmer.

In this series, I follow a different meaning of a word “farmer” – highlighting the beauty and the hard work.  When I started following blueberry grower Greftenhoeve early April I didn’t know blueberries have such a beautiful life cycle.

Blueberries start out as delicate pink flowers that turn into white tubes. Once the tubes fall off, the opening of a green berry becomes visible. Slowly the berry starts to expand. The colors turn from, green, to red, to purple, until eventually, at the end of July until August, the berry is ready to be plucked.

Whoa! At my grandparent's cottage there are a ton of wild blueberries but I've never seen them do this! We always visit in the summer though, so maybe it's just the wrong time of year. So beautiful!

O god this is terrifying for a bebaphobic like me XD Bebaphobia is the fear of blueberries. Before anyone tries to convince me to change, when I was 8 p, I bit into a mouldy blueberry and the next two years were spent on medication. I won't change.

Untill recent years we knew blueberries as mustikka in Finland but its actually billberry and has much more flavour. But I like both, for as my name in Finnish means the branches of such plants..

Nice shots. They've got good composition but they're a bit blurry. Were they shot with a cell phone?
