What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the subway? We bet it's nothing short of unpleasant. Chaotic minutes of waiting in the company of unwanted noises and smells, where a minute too long might turn into an eerie hallucination of mischievous monsters covered in blue fur, horns, fangs, or extra sets of eyes... well, perhaps we just read too much into the works of Ben Rubin.

An artist and the head of Subway Doodle, Ben Rubin takes the boring pages (actually, he snaps photos) from the book of everyday life in NYC subways and turns them into magic. It's an ongoing project that started off as a means to pass time en route to a destination.

Indeed, mostly blue and very much covered in fur, Ben Rubin's monstrous characters come to life as unseen guests affecting and being affected by their surroundings. Some manage to get themselves into quite the bizarre predicaments.

Well, be that as it may, the only remaining question we have is this - whoever might be paying for their MetroCards?

Sad times for monsters is when their pet gets a crush on someone other than them.

One time when getting on a MARTA (Atlanta public transit) train the doors closed on me. Of course they immediately opened again and I squeezed on. Then I did a mock fight. The other passengers enjoyed my bit of rapid-transit comedy.
