If I'm creating an OC, I'm damn well giving her a backstory. Her name is Lumiere— at least that's what she tells her friends to call her. Her real name, Chiara, was given to her by her mother, after her best friend in high school who died too young and too innocent. She hates that name— no offense mom— because it's too common, and too loud, and too old, and sometimes her mother looks at her like the name is not enough. Like 'Chiara' is not enough, because she's never had cerulean blue eyes and jet black hair, not like the other Chiara she's known only through those old grainy pictures mother never lets out of sight. Lumiere has Sapphire blue hair, and she intends to keep that way till she dies or it suffers intense damage due to all the chemicals— whichever comes first. Her eyes, a deep shade of purple with specks of blue, remind her mother of the geranium flowers that once bloomed in their garden. She once mentioned in passing that her eyes perfectly complement her tan skin, and she's loved her body ever since. Mom is the coolest among all her friends' parents; she doesn't set a curfew, doesn't ground her, offers suggestions on any boy or girl matter, and teases her relentlessly about it. Her friends love her mother, they are often vocal about their jealousy on having a best friend for a mother. Lumiere is nineteen now— a whole year older than Chiara ever was— and all she's wished, all she wishes, is for her mother to be a parent for once, and not her best friend.
