70 years old which probably means a fixed income. As someone on disability, which is a fraction of what I made working, every single penny counts. That's not an exaggeration. Why spend the money on something, just because the handle broke? The lid is perfectly fine, all she needed was to make a handle. I would do the same thing. I grew up poor, so you have to learn to make a penny scream.
