Love Is Blind: Cat From Greece Finds A Loving Home In Londoner’s Home, Goes Viral On TikTok
Love is blind. Don’t believe it? Dmitri is here to make you see it. Back in the day, he was just a normal stray, hanging on the streets of Greece, putting peets where he pleased. But then, something bad happened, and his eye got infected, then the other. The doctors had no choice but to make him blind…
But then along came Emma. She was looking for a blind cat, since she knew they were among the most neglected ones. She met Dmitri and fell in love with him immediately. Life hasn’t been the same ever since for both of them.

“So Dmitri is a boy and we live in London, UK. I had always wanted to adopt a rescue cat. I got in touch with a local cat charity and they suggested that I adopt a blind cat. They let me know that there was a blind kitten available who they had rescued and brought over from Greece. They told me that he was found with a severe eye infection and that the eyes had to be surgically removed.”
Due to a bad infection, Dmitri had both of his eyes removed

“I fell in love with him as soon as I met him. He was so friendly and affectionate from the get-go, and I thought he was really beautiful. As soon as I entered the room, he hugged my foot and I knew I wanted to adopt him.”

“It is almost no different to looking after a sighted cat. He is able to find his way around with his other senses, and I don’t have to make any adjustments to accommodate his blindness. The only difference is that he can’t go outside. Sometimes, when I take him to visit family, I’ll let him explore an enclosed garden and he absolutely loves that.”

Because of his blindness, Dmitri has a very acute sense of smell and hearing

“Adopting Dmitri is the best decision I’ve ever made. He is such a loving cat and I think it’s wonderful that he’s become so popular on TikTok. I would encourage people who want a pet to consider adopting a disabled one. They are often overlooked.”
He also uses his paws to read the room

Despite him not being able to see, he is very trusting in humans

Dmitri’s blind escapades are followed by millions of people on TikTok. It seems that people are very keen to see how he deals with the environment

His TikTok bio says “0 eyes, 1 big heart” and it’s a really fair judgement of Dmitri’s character

Though Dmitri may not “see you later,” he might “hear from you,” or “smell you around,” or “keep in touch”

(weird, we're both named emma) I had a deaf-and-blind cat named Mila, she was the sweetest thing. Despite not being able to see or hear, she could move around perfectly fine, I had her for six years until she died of cancer, RIP Mila
I had a Dalmatian who was deaf from birth and went blind. She was a great dog with a lot of personality and she had 13 good years. Animals with disabilities might need a little accomodation, but they can be wonderful companions and have happy lives.
