They say friends are the family you can choose. Your close friends might not be related to you by blood, but they surely have your best interests at heart and sometimes know things about you your family is better off not knowing. Some people think friends should have shared hobbies, but while having Harry Potter marathons together is surely a nice bonus to the relationship, it is more important to have common values and respect for each other.
Your friend circle is formed at different stages of life: some might come from as far back as elementary school, while others you might meet at a local pub after you’ve just moved into a new neighborhood. As long as you feel comfortable around each other and know you won’t be judged for who you are, nothing else matters.
And of course, what are BFFs for if not to share some jokes? With them, you can joke about almost everything. You can even go on Twitter and share some funny tweets about friends and situations you’ve been through together.

Ah yes, happy memories of shouting at my best friend - who was in the next police cell in Chichester, UK - to ask him why we were there and how did we get there ; he wasn't sure .... hey ho, the nice custody Sergeant put us straight, then told us to f**k off and not do it again (whatever it was) - as I remember, he nearly re arrested us when I asked him where was a good place to get breakfast ... (As it turns out, it was the Dolphin and Anchor Hotel ; it was a tad embarassing as we couldn't wash the fingerprint ink off before we went into the restaurant .... It was going well until B - my best mate - got slightly queasy and didn't quite make it to the loo before he upchucked. Oh to be 23 again ....

So true! I went to a party for a friend's daughter last year and wasn't feeling great anxiety wise, was a bit overwhelmed. One of my friends also had a lot going on at the time. We said hello etc and then just looked at each other and nodded. Then gave each other some space, but kept looking out for each other during the party to check they were okay. Exactly what we needed at the time!

I had a best friend and every time I called her, she'd say " I was just getting ready to call you". She died at 40 years old from lupus. I miss her every daggone day.

I am sorry for your loss. I had a best friend like that too. We have been best friends since we were 14 and that was 1974. She died from cancer 7 years ago at 55, and I think about her almost everyday
