40 Things People Said That Indicated They Don’t Realize How The World Really Works, As Shared In This Online Community
People have the best knowledge of what they have experienced and to be more aware of what is going on outside their life’s bubble, they have to interact with people who are different from them and to actively search for that information.
Otherwise, they might make themselves oblivious and out of touch with reality, which could make them look stupid in front of others. Ignorance is not bad in itself as it is impossible to know everything, but sometimes it is hard to believe how certain knowledge has not reached a person.
Not realizing that there are people who can’t afford a house or having gaps in general education are some things Redditors considered to be common knowledge that doesn’t belong just to a single society group, but they were wrong and told some funny and frustrating stories answering the question “What did somebody say that made you think: ‘This person is out of touch with reality?’”

I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for some rich clients. Old money. These people know nothing about reality.
The best one I heard was this family I was working 12 hour days for. Good pay, terrible schedule. At one point I was bouncing their baby on my knee and the Mom goes “Being a mom isn’t that hard. I don’t know why other women complain about it so much”.
While her nanny is literally caring for the baby.
Pretty much any time I see someone yelling at a Starbucks or other service employee. They come into a crowded shop, wave their big $5 bill around like a high roller, then yell at a 16 year old for making their coffee incorrectly. Lame. If you find yourself to be one of the people yelling at service workers, fix your own problems before telling other people what to do.
Why should they? That kind of attitude has always worked, so why change now? When I became a manager in retail at a theme park, I was finally able to get revenge on those assholes. And I will take up for any service worker getting abused.
There are a lot of older fugly apartment buildings near the house I grew up in.
My friend at the time that lived a very privileged lifestyle, $200-300+ weekly weekend dinners with the family, timeshares over the place, skiing and snowboarding trips, etc. She was like why would anyone want to live in these apartments? I would never
I was like, people that live there don't have a choice...
Showed a parent the security footage of her 8th grader hitting a teacher. She claimed the footage had been edited. Sigh…..
My sister taught 6th grade English. More than one parent was required to sit in on their kid's classes. The kids still acted up because their parents refused to hold them accountable. The most common comment from the parents, and I use that word lightly, "We can't control him/her." When it came to the report cards, and the kids failed, they would storm in yelling that it just had to be the teacher's fault. Sure it is. No homework was turned in, every test failed. Yep, it's definitely the teacher's fault.
Me: telling someone I’m a type 1 diabetic
Rando: “you shouldn’t have eaten so much sugar as a child”
Also:
“Are you still diabetic” - P.A. At a checkup
Plus the limitless amount of “cures” people have for this incurable disease.
once got in an argument with a girl that people would rather die of starvation than eat something that's carcinogenic. I asked if she was seriously saying people would choose to starve to death over the course of a month than risk potentially developing cancer in a few years and she said yes.
I asked if she'd ever gone an entire day without eating before or knew what that felt like. she hadn't.
Billionaires and multimillionaires singing 'Imagine' while sitting in their gigantic mansions largely unaffected by the pandemic.
Had someone today tell me they are anti vaxx because 2 days after thier daughter got the covid shot she turned gay
There is a place called Idiot Creek though so maybe the parents are from there.
Load More Replies...Pls tell me you are just being sarcastic???De(the)nial(almost pronounced the same as nile)
I don't know if I should be laughing this much, this was too damn funny!
You have company if it helps, I'm also unsure if I should be laughing this hard.
Wait, do you swap orientation at every shot? Or does it push you further & further on the kinsey scale? Or does it turn your orientation by... 90degrees? 70degrees? I think we should be told.
I did hear a lot of people are catching the gay from the vaccine ! 😂
And if you belong to the LBGQT community you will automatically become "normal" again! Disgusting.
My sister and her friend, both of whom have Autism have been laughing this whole time, as each Covid vax 'unlocks more Autism powers' :)
Load More Replies...Oh yes. Happened to me, too. Why, I turned gay some 50 years before the covid shot! Those things are a hazard, I tell you. /get the vaccine
The way you check if the ghost of Freddie Mercury is nearby, you take a video recording of a dark room, and if you hear a faint "ooOooOooOOOOooo", and maybe, see a faint moustache with buck teeth in the shadows, Freddie is there.
Didn't you know? It's the Illuminati agenda! They're trying to turn everyone gay to decrease the population... those who don't turn gay.. just die so it works in many ways. It's the globalist elites master plan to kill off all of the sheep. Then they're going to come for us smart peoples guns since we don't get vaccinated n therefore won't be killed easily like all the sheeples.. that way we can't fight back when they can declare martial law and put us into fema camps that are hidden underneath all of the Walmarts. Then they'll use all of us as slaves n for free labor while they all practice their satanist masses n sacrifice babies n drink adrenochrome. Duh. I thought this was common knowledge now? (I am being sarcastic. I do not believe in any of this s**t. But these are all ideas I've ACTUALLY head trump supporters talk about... LOL)
But some queer couples (trans ones for instance) can naturally reproduce, and there's not only over 400k kids waiting to be adopted in the US alone, but with cis/cis.gay couples, lesbians and gay guys could swap. So maybe you'd have fewer babies, but it's not like it stops queer couples from having kids, not to mention, and there's all those.children needing adoption anyway. As a former foster kid, that system is hell and absolutely no child should EVER have to go through that experience, let alone age out without a family like I did. It messes up your early life so much usually. I was homeless on my 18th birthday because I'm bisexual. I know you're not saying these things, but there's so much trump supporters think and say that is such b******t. Even if the COVID-19 vaccines made people gay, it wouldn't accomplish the goal they think it would lol.
Load More Replies...Exactly!! So many unwanted babies and yet people only want their own special s**t genes. The pro birthers don't care about babies once they born and they ignore foster kids!!
No trump supporter I have EVER met believed in those crazy things. You must look ve I. The fake media world. Sad. Shaking my head you are so ignorant
I already had The Gay and I got the booster, so does it make me Triple Gay? Or would it Straighten me? Haha it didn’t work in that case
I think you can still pass The Gay along to your partner. Those pesky STIs!
As dumb as that person is, I do know that some lgbtq kids are using their parents' anti vax beliefs as ways to come out safely so I guess that's a win.
I'm sure that's exactly how her daughter became gay. My daughter has had 2 vaxxes plus the booster and she's pansexual. Can't wait to find out what she becomes when she has the fourth!
maybe if you'e lucky she will turn into a transformer
Load More Replies..."Turned gay" huh ? People that clueless need to wear a sign so the rest of us can avoid them at all cost.
They kinda do. Just look for the sign the moment they speak. 😁
Load More Replies...Wow wtf. People are really this dumb and I know this but it never ceases to amaze me. I feel bad for the person that came out as a homosexual if they have to live with people like this. People don't just turn gay. It's 2022, how does anyone not know this? I am straight and live in a very secluded area and even I am not that stupid. Denial makes people act really dumb sometimes.
Got my 3rd shot not long ago & sorry to say... Still very straight with 0 interest in dating 🤔 does the phizer one not work? 😏
My sister who is a grown freaking woman did not get vaccinate over Revenge!🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾
I don't understand where the connection between covid & homosexuality is? One has nothing to do with the other. If she had come out before she caught Covic does that mean that her gayness caused her Covid?mean, what's the thought process leading them there? Is she (the mom)brain damaged or just really, really stupid? So many questions....I feel bad for the daughter that has to put up with her.
I'd rather be gay than dead ( or in a hospital not being able to breathe).......just saying lol Btw, Im not, but I support all LGBTQIA+ ♥️🌈
When I was a kid working at an old fashioned ice cream parlor I had a mom come in screaming at me that our ice cream made her daughter pregnant?! I laughed thinking she was joking around..... she wasn't. And I was unemployed because I disrespected that mom by laughing.
She probably figured if her mom was going to berate her for her vaccination status anyway, why not add sexuality to the mix!
Flu Vaccine causes Homosexuality confirmed lol. I got the flu right after my flue shot, which developed into an autoimmune disorder which gave me diabetes. By this ladies logic I got type 1 diabeties from a flu shot. If that's the logic I want a class action lawsuit lol
What the f**k does your personal sexually have to do with any vaccination of any kind???? WOW people come on
It's the daughter's fault! C'mon, timing is everything! She should have come out before the vax or waited a year after so the superstitious parents wouldn't connect it to the vax.
Blatant stupidity seems to be trending these days.
Had to read this one a few times before it sank in. Maybe i am the dumb one.
So people just make s**t up on these lists huh? What does the author or the article do just scour Reddit for comments and copy them over here? "I heard it on the interweb so it must be true!" Derp
The idiot next door informed my husband and I that the gov. Is putting agent orange in the vaccines to kill us all.
Wait...I'm sorry, What?? Hold on, let me see if this is actually saying, what I think it says...Holy Crap! It does. I thought my sister's reason for not getting the vaccine was ridiculous ( and it is ). But this is up there with her reason. My sister believes in 2 years after getting the vaccine, a switch will be flipped, and everyone who received the vaccine will die. Bless her heart.
its a joke but ,when i say i got a huge life changing medical problem from the vaccine ,i get banned, laughed at and called a liar, cuz there is no sutch thing as a adverse reaction to the vaccine....its all a f*****g joke, nobody realy cares about your health its all about controll
Jeeezussss, the brains of some people Nah 🤦🏻♀️ Nah...the truth is she got her shot and quite possibly felt 'free' & relieved (as I did when I got mine) and that she was ready to conquer things- which is why she decided to finally tell her parents she is gay.
I'm pro vaxx because I'm Autistic & want everyone to catch Autism 😉
then she has the 2nd shot and magically turns straight. Then the 3rd...
#11 was debunked so many times. A liberal said it to try to make vaccine skeptics look foolish.
Too small a sample group. Was the study blind? Who did you use as your control?
Ok. I didn’t get the Covid vaccine but I didn’t get it because I don’t think I need it for my immune system to fight Covid off. This is just my opinion. You are free to have your own
I got the vaccine because I'm a Type 1 diabetic a decided I had rather risk whatever issues I may face down the road from there not being enough studies done on the vaccines rather than risk dying from actual covid if I caught covid since I have a lot of complications from the diabetes. But I also think that everyone should have the right to decide for themselves and not be forced to get vaccinated against their will whenever we don't have as much data on this vaccine as we normally do before a vaccine is given. I don't think anyone should be forced to put anything into their body that could have adverse effects later down the road and we don't have enough data yet to know what those effects could be. I respect those who get vaccinated the same as those who choose not to, especially considering it's been shown that even those who have been vaccinated are still able to contract covid and spread it to others.
Ignorance is sad and unnecessary. If you don't know something, ask someone more knowledgeable
They should just admit that they're afraid of the jab and get it over with
That is just the dumbest thing. There are a lot of things the shot does that is bad, but gay is not bad and it isn't one of them. That kind of ignorance makes the entire human race look stupid.
If the virus doesn't wipe out the human race, overwhelming ignorance likely will.[sigh]
Dang..to think it took me all those years to come out.. I could have just gone and gotten a shot!
And what if it turns people gay for some reason? Is the world going to end? I mean I am a religious guy but...?
If she had turned gray, that might make sense; but not gay. That's not how that works.
I have long covid and I know for a fact my father would have preferred I suddenly turned gay than got sick. And I wasn't even one of the people in hospital fighting for every breath. I got sick before the vaccine btw. I am triple jabbed and have never been anti vax.
Someone should show her the dictionary definition of “coincidence” and also “correlation does not equal causation”.
My hubs had a customer stand beside register for a half an hour telling him that vaxxed ppl were giving those that weren't vaxxed crystal lung. Had a long story about that was how her daughter died. At the end he pulled down his mask and smiled at her and said I'm fully vaxxed.
I don't know which is worse. This, or the "I'd rather risk my child dying young than the chance that the liar was right about vaccines causing autism" people.
Lol that earns the gold 🏅 for Stupid. Anti Vax, homophobic & for thinking vaccines & sexuality have a correlation. It had to have been a joke, right? Right?
Went to a super rich girls house, she had had a baby 2 months prior, she had nannies coming in and out maids and a literal house manager plus PAs etc. and she was bragging about how she was back at work so soon and how she doesn’t know how people can stand doing ‘nothing’ for so long.
And when the baby says "mama" for the first time, it's for the nanny.
"I'm entitled to my opinion" when presented with facts showing they were wrong.
This bothers me sooooooo much. Opinions are not facts. Facts are not opinions. You are entitled to the opinion that Nickelback is a good band. You are even entitled to the opinion that certain Presidents/Prime Ministers are good/bad at their jobs because you can narrow your opinion down to very slim frames of reference (BoJo *was* the right guy to get Brexit done (unfortunately)). But you do NOT get to opine on whether the Earth is flat or whether vaccines work effectively.
"Nobody has ever died from rationing their insulin, nobody" - My FIL. That was an odd take of his, I'm still kinda puzzled over it. People have died doing almost anything. He didn't think they died from rationing something that costs hundreds of dollars per week though.
Sophomore year of high school, in my biology class, this one girl got into a conversation about what causes the winter season with the teacher.
And she goes, “winter happens because the sun turns cold, right?”
Honestly, I’m still having trouble processing that one, and it’s been eight years.
Wharton students were interviewed asking what they though the average income was. 25% said 6 figures. The same question was asked at a local community college and the collective agreement was $15k
My aunt was bragging that her knee surgery cost her zero dollars because of Medicare. I said “yeah, that kind of socialized medicine is nice”. She the threatened to “take me out back and beat my a**” for saying that.
Your aunt is mentally weak, sorry. She's like the Spongebob of brainpower.
Whenever a disabled person shares their experience and a non-disabled person tells them how they can "fix" all of those problems.
I could write an entire dissertation on this. My best friend is visually impaired but has tunnel vision. She has no peripheral vision, and people tell her to get glasses, which she has, and tell her she doesn't look blind, so she must be lying. There is so much more I can say, but I am too angry just thinking about this.
Working for a super wealthy client who lived in the most expensive gated neighbourhood in the country... A Walled community, filled with old money and old political families, and he was complaining about "the elites" who the f**k do you think you are ? Joe F*****g 6 pack?
When liberals complain about 'the elite', they are often referring to the rich/super-rich. When conservatives b***h about 'the elite', they generally mean the educated. Stupid, rich, and conservative is the worst combo.
my sister, who traveled from the US to europe for the first time when she was 15 and has now lived there for over 5 years. We were talking about reasons people join the military and I mentioned a friend of mine who grew up on a reservation with very little and joined because he wanted to travel and get out of the rez. She looked at me and said “why can’t he just save up if he wants to travel?”
I’m 27 years old, grew up with most of the same privileges as her, and have never had the time or resources to leave the country. But she thought it was reasonable for a historically disenfranchised community member, growing up with nothing, to save up his money in order to leave home and travel.
When my boss said “My word is better than getting it in writing.” I can think of several instances where they’ve promised something or given their word on only to later renege on the deal.
I'm a 911 operator and had a man call 911 because the internet at the hotel he was staying at got disconnected. I told him it was not a police issue and he would have to talk to the hotel staff and/or just wait for it to reboot. He responded, "Not a police issue? This is criminal. If I unplugged someone's life support, isn't that a crime?"
Misuse of the 9-1-1 system. Let's see how you feel in a jail cell. Wishful thinking on my part.
Me, homeless at the time and working my way out of it.
Coworker: I don't know why people go on game shows for money, winning 100,000 dollars wouldn't be life-changing, anyway.
Had a coworker that noticed an item’s tag said Made in Vietnam. She’s said “ Made in Vietnam? That’s a place? I thought it was a war !! “
My husband's friend insisted on taking us to the 'best, most authentic' Chinese restaurant in town.
I'm Chinese. He's a Jewish guy who has never been to any Chinese speaking country.
The food wasn't good, nor was it authentic.
He had the most smug look on his face when he sat back and quirked his eyebrow at me as if expecting me to heap praise onto him. Anyway, I didn't.
Best part is that they aren't friends anymore (I had nothing to do with that, I promise), so now I don't have to pretend that crab rangoons are the peak of Chinese cuisine.
American "Chinese" food is good.. some places are better than others. But nothing compares to real Chinese food. My brothers fiancé is from China and her family always has big dinner parties and OMFG... I never knew that American Chinese food wasn't actual Chinese food until I ate at their house. I'm just angry that there aren't any authentic places in the US because it's so much better than what is being sold here. I don't really remember some of the dishes they made. I just remember her mother lecturing us about how Americans ruined Asian cuisines and how she's on a mission to correct this atrocity! Oh and her red bean cakes and moon cakes were amazing! I had never had Chinese desserts before. I think she made some kind of mango pudding too one time that ruined all pudding for me. Nothing compares now.
I heard someone yesterday suggest that children should operate heavy machinery to address supply shortages.
Turns out that guy happened to be the fricken prime minister.
Not that it's a good solution (or that they would have the aptitude for it), but what small child WOULDN'T want to operate an excavator?
People wonder why there isn't more eyewitness accounts of 9/11 because surely everyone just pulled out their phones?
B***h please. Back in 2001 most people were still using 35mm film cameras, camcorders were usually VHS and digital ones were not cheap in the slightest, and the US was behind the curve on cellular technology anyway. I was in the US a few months before 9/11 and even in New York people didn't understand what SMS was let alone had a phone compatible or were using it.
How is there an amount of eyewitnesses of 9/11 that makes people wonder why there isn't more? I mean, i'm a stupid alt-left radical commie anti-America extremist, but i think that if the tallest buildings in the city had a passenger jet aircraft fly into them and turn into a dust cloud of smoke and non-melting steel beams, i'd notice it.
A friend of mine in college was absolutely shocked when I and several other friends pulled out our childhood/hometown public library cards at dinner one night. She could not fathom that all of our families went to the library regularly when we were growing up and that this is an extremely common experience for a lot of people. When I asked her what she did when she wanted to read books growing up, she said "My family just bought them all."
One of my dreams. Own books. I have been able to acquire books and will keep those that I want to re-read. All others go to the library.
Former roommate declared, "I'm an only child, that means I don't have to be nice if I don't want to."
I was 16 years old, in Driver's Ed, and the teacher asks us an extra credit question. "Why are there interstates in Hawaii? You can't drive there from any other state."
A girl in my class raised her hand and asked, "Was it because they were built before Hawaii broke off?"....This girl thought it was a possibility that Hawaii broke off, and drifted to the middle of the Pacific ocean, all in the last 50 years.
Also, Hawaii has interstates because, if a highway is funded by the federal government, it's simply called an interstate.
My old boss was railing on me for placing an order late and getting charged more after missing the ‘early bird special’, when I had been reminding her consistently for at least two months (gradually increasing my urgency that she needed to make up her mind). She was yelling at me and then said, “$$$ might not seem like a lot to you but it is to me!”
This coming from the person who set my wage, signed my checks, owned 4 substantial homes, had MILLIONS of dollars worth of artwork, designer everything, etc… While I was living in a 250sq foot garden studio apartment with my partner, which flooded when it rained longer than two days, making her hundreds of thousands of dollars from sales, with no commission.
My aunt is a bit into that. She's done really well for herself but has forgotten that not all of us are retired engineers who play the stock market for funsies part time. She suggested Thanksgiving at my place one year, and I had to remind her that I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment and inviting around 15 people there wasn't going to work.
I was involved in a nonprofit for women in my last city maybe 2 years back. My ex (we were 27 at the time) was from a rich area of the state, and the mean income for this area was $31k. A teacher talked about how 500+ kids in her school were homeless, abs how seniors would pool their money together to get a hotel for days or weeks at a time.
I remember telling my ex about it, and how awful that’s gotta be to be 17 and living with 10 others in a hotel. He said “they’re stupid. If they had any brains, they’d buy a house so they could get equity; the hotel is just them throwing their money away and not getting anything from it.” He was 100% stuck that these 17 year olds, with no addresses, who are MINORS, can apply and qualify for a mortgage. I fussed at him and don’t regret it, because he is so out of touch with reality. Eventually he went on months later to say he talks down about other people and acts like he’s better than everyone because he is better than everyone.
Edit to add: to clarify, he suggested the high schoolers should all buy a house, not my organization. Household income was about 10k higher than individual. His parents were loaded, so he never had to really pay for anything until after college, and even then he didn’t have to pay for housing for the first 3 years of his career, and even still, 95% of his (nice) furniture and everything was given to him. It’s very easy to brag about your 401k when you NEVER had to allocate money towards rent, loans, etc.
He would have been an EX the first time he said something that stupid.
i’ve genuinely heard someone comment on a homeless person asking why they “don’t just get a home”…
f*ck this y'all i'm picking myself up by my bootstraps *grabs bootstraps and source engine noclips out of the atmosphere*
Some guy whose parents paid for his college tuition mentioned to a coworker who has $107,000 in student loans say he should be able to pay it off in 5 years.
Coworker makes $23 an hour on 5-8s.
Classmate in college kept throwing his Starbucks cups on the ground and other garbage.
"They pay people to pick it up"
He was the son of a guy who owned multiple resorts in South America.
Older coworkers asking me why poor people keep spending/borrowing money when they know they'll never pay it back..
Lol, like to live? What's the difference in $2k or $20k in debt when you know you'll only ever be paying back $0?
It's kind of liberating when you accept that you'll always be in debt. I'm getting a MA and buying a house. I'll die in debt. Good luck collecting the money then.
One of my relatives "Joined the illuminati" on facebook.... On. Facebook. He was really serious too and excited about it.
My fiance is a doctor, I'm an engineer her and I grew up VERY blue collar. We still have tons of student debt to pay off before we can reap the benefits of a good salary.
Her friend, a doctor who was a resident when she was in med school, was talking to us about the new house she bought, and kept asking us when we planned on moving out of our s****y apartment and getting a nice big town house. She couldn't comprehend that unlike her, our parents aren't rich, and they can't buy a house for us in CASH, and let us pay them back interest free.
I love her to death, she's a sweet friend we have known for a long time. She has done so much for us in terms of friendship and emotional support. But her mom was a successful surgeon, her dad retired early after selling his successful business.
There are poor people in the world who cannot for the life of them imagine what the life of a rich person is, and there are rich people in the world who have never, ever had to be confronted with what a poor person's life is like. They are surrounded their whole lives with people like them, and they really don't have a clue that there is anything else.
Had a girl ask what happened to the Mongolians in history class. She said “there’s not like a present day Mongolia or anything”. She sat under the ten foot wide world map, Mongolia was about two feet above her head.
When the United States legalized same-sex marriage, and Americans said they were going to emigrate to Canada. 1) Canada and Norway are the first countries to legalize same-sex marriage 2) You have to apply to emigrate to Canada. It takes years and tons of paperwork, and you still might be rejected.
Yeah, I don't remember Americans having ever been invited to Canada...just sayin'. - Sincerely, all Canadians
Load More Replies...Please. Please. Please. Can I come to Canada? Have mercy on my pitiful u.s. soul.
Why would you call your soul pitiful? Ashamed of being American?
Don't blame you. Some days I wish I didn't have to live with them. Born & raised in USA
Sorry to say, but there are some mistakes in what you just said. For one, the Netherlands was the first to legalize it.
I looked this up before I posted and now can't find it--but Netherlands was first, however, then Canada legalized same-sex marriage retroactively to a previous date. Not trying to quibble--I'm just happy it's legal.
Im pretty sure Americans were pleading to get refugee status because Trump was elected... which is kinda the opposite, so....
I didn't downvote you--but yes that happened when Trump got in--but it also happened when gay marriage was legalized.
I'm sorry to say, but it did. Then many people (from the opposite spectrum) wanted to leave when Trump came into power--I'm glad they didn't--we need the good people to stay and fight the good fight to make sure he doesn't get back in again.
We are fighting the good fight. To get him reelected. The idiot you used to steal the election couldn't screw up this nation faster. Unless that is untill he gets us in the next ww.
That's why we have so many billionaires and rich people yet the world still suffers endlessly.
Load More Replies...Thought about that as well. Not shocking. I swear it's like they live on a different planet
Imagine that the examples here are how millionaires and billionaires feel towards each other 🤣
Notice how rich/high status people tend to be the ones messing up our governments?
Those poor million and billionaires. Breaks my heart. They should have a gofundme
I don’t blame wealthy people for not being constantly acutely aware of how other people live. I do blame them when, if confronted with how poorer people live, they won’t take a minute do some simple math in their head. Like the wealthy woman who told me that if I visited Europe I should be sure to stay for at least a few weeks or a month and take my time, when she knew that, at that time, I made $18,000 a year. WTF?!
yep, arrogant as hell though. At that salary, which here is considered moderately low middle-income, there's ZERO chance of overseas travel. You need to be getting ballpark $ 30 000 per annum to stand a chance.
Load More Replies...It was 20 years ago, so renting a little studio was still affordable, but yeah, I wasn’t going to be hanging out in Monaco anytime soon.
No, can't say that I have. Edit: went to post the same thing again as a joke and bp outright says "hey, you already made this same comment before, so we won't post it."
BoredPanda is just the middleman collecting the most depressing stuff for the reader, so it's both
It's 'painful' to read about human arrogance, stupidity, and lack of empathy.
The amount on stuff that did not really happen in this list and the ones that were meant as jokes far out weigh the real ones... lol
Some of these were funny... But the ones making fun of teens for not knowing how the world works were kind of sad. Like... they're still kids, they're pretty new here, they only know what they've been taught and exposed to, which is a reflection of their schools and caretakers, not of their intelligence. Like, yeah, a 16 year old should know these things, because someone should have taught them. What, do you think they learn how the world is by osmosis? Just because they have access to social media doesn't mean their phones can auto download all necessary knowledge into their brains. They have to know what to look for to learn on their own, and lots of times that takes considerable life experience. Stop ragging on literal children for not knowing things.
Neighbor was complaining about our lawn. I told her we don't have a mower. She said "So fix it". I repeated "We don't have a lawnmower"
She meant fix the lawnmower problem but that's still unreasonable
Load More Replies...The one about borrowing money and never being able to pay it back is a fair point. Because easy credit is offered does not make it a good move to take it, in fact it is usually not. Debt does matter and a borrower with sound morals will at least make an effort to pay it back.
My mom goes by the quote "if you are letting someone borrow money, don't expect it back"
Load More Replies...If the borrower has the ability to pay it back, then sure. If the person is struggling to get by and has to accumulate debt to stay alive, then you're missing the point.
My boss is rich. He owns a few houses to include a really nice apartment in NYC. His daughter lives there for free. She's not required to have a job and has an unlimited credit card and gets a new Macbook for Christmas every year. One night she took a private gig bartending a party thrown by a billionaire. The only thing she had to do all night was pour wine. They paid her a few grand. When she got home to her dad's apartment, he was in town for the weekend, she said to him, "Wow Dad, now I know how the other half live." Um honey, you ARE the other half. The next time he was in the office after that he told this story to every employee. He literally told the story like 20 times. Most of his employees can barely afford their rent.
Sounds like an EXTREMELY boring and uninformed life for the dad and/or daughter
On a vacation in Italy, my wife and I were on a train to Venice. There was a woman talking, loudly. She was from Lansing, Michigan and was discussing her experiences and insights with some she had made an acquaintance with about her tour of Italy. She said she did not care for Rome. What was her grievance with this ancient city? The streets were to narrow and she would be unable to fit her SUV down them. It was just a poorly designed city...
Work customer service for a major retailer that uses gift cards, which are treated as cash. No word of a lie, when client told me that they had gotten the gift card and mailed it out, after receiving, their response to being told we wouldn't refund it was "That's like watching my mother being raped. Picture you're mother being raped. PICTURE YOUR MOTHER BEING RAPED...." Over and over til I hung up.
Growing up, we categorize these rich people into two categories. People and marks. Yeah I'm not much of an upstanding citizen growing up. You do what you can to eat and a well gamed mark can keep you and your friends fed for a while.
Anyone can be rich. Just pick the right skin color, have wealthy parents and influential friends, be good looking, attend a top notch school, pick the right country to be born in, make sure you are male ... Just don't understood why everyone does not do these simple rules for success.
I have a feeling that it was mostly about America and their situation. and it's scary. I'm happy to live in Europe. the American dream is not as sweet as people here often imagine.
You must be very lucky then. I have lived in europe all my life and I am poor as f**k. In Spain unemployment is rampant, salaries are extremely low and many kids go to school without food. In the netherlands you need to pay a extremely expensive insurance (minimum 95 euros a month) to even get any health care and not get a huge fine. Here in belgium if you are a migrant and disabled like me you get nothing, only threats and lies from the government. The only reason why I am not in the streets is because my partner has a job and cares for me.
