The bulldog has long been the official mascot of the Unite States Marine Corps, but despite their fearsome name and military association, they are more brave than aggressive, and are quite friendly. Today, April 21st, is Bulldogs are Beautiful Day, which celebrates this affectionate dog.
But if bulldogs are so good-natured, what’s with the name? The term “bulldog” was first mentioned in writing around 1500. This came from the dog’s use in the sport of bull baiting, where dogs were set on a tethered bull, with bets placed on which dog would take the bull down. How can a dog take down a bull? By its nose!
What do you think of the dogs below? Which one would you take home?
