Beasty V.s. Depression

I’ve been struggling with depression for a long time now, but I act positive so no one sees me as “sad”, “weird”, or “faking it” or whatever.

I’ve been making Beasty for a few weeks to help others see depression through my eyes, but no one really gets it.

At first it was a kind of complicated drawing but I made it simpler over time.

Depression has really weakened me from my grades to my friendships and I really hope to get some help…

Beastly’ first drawing (and last like this). Depression is the goopy thing I think Beasty represents me a little…

Beasty is simplified now. It made it easier for me to draw and a bit cuter to relieve some stress.

Sometimes it’s like a wave of horrible things comes at me after I’ve just reached the air of success…

I’ve been trying to escape for so long but I can never reach my goal…

The monster is always after me and no matter how hard I fight it, it’s always there.

I try talking to others, but they don’t understand… 😔

It feels like it’s caving in on me, waiting for me to snap

And sometimes I wonder…

It WILL get better. It's never easy to hear, and it's impossible to believe during what you're going through, but it will. Listen to Derpicorn: find someone you trust that listens well. It won't fix everything, but it will help, and every little step is progress toward beating back that goopy thing. You ARE Beasty, and you can do it. Words from strangers on the internet don't always help, but we can't offer you much else.

Depression is a hard topic... people think it's weird or just sadness but it's much more. If it is affecting your grades and social life, you should really get some help. It's hard to find advice from people on the internet so I know you've probably tried a lot. You should talk to someone closest to you and tell them what's really going on.

I wanted to thank everyone who commented for the support, I’ve been getting a little better each month at least and it’s helped me to improve my grades, friendships, etc. it’s really hard to get rid of though. I’ll try and post a beasty each week to let you all know how I’m doing. Thank you so much again! It makes me happy that I’m not alone.

I just want to say, thank you so much for mentioning me on your profile! Really means a lot when someone with your artistic skill notices someone like me. Thanks for the comics!

I just want to say, awesome work. I saw the post you did before this and your artwork has gotten even better since then. Keep your head above water, kiddo!

Hey, I have been struggling with depression too. I was on the verge of giving up. It has affected my life, flipped it around (in a horrible way). Nobody seems to understand what I go through. When it got severe, a therapist recommended this book, Feeling Good by David Burns. I've just started, but I'm sure you could use a read too! Stay Strong!

This is so beautiful. Depression isn't something that ever goes away completely. Even when you're extremely happy, it's always lurking, making you wonder "how long is this going to last".
