This haute mess was created in an effort to raise awareness about the massive amount of waste that is ending up in our oceans. All of these garments were made from litter that I picked up off the beaches of Los Angeles & Sydney, Australia.

I teamed up with Photographer Lisa Bevis, hair stylist Nina Paskowitz & makeup artist Andrew Shulman. Lisa shot these in a recycling center, while rats scurried through the piles of garbage. Unfortunately, none of them stayed still long enough to be in the shots! Models Kelli Kickham & Aria Love braved the broken glass, rats, stench & uncomfortable outfits to tell the story.     I've been picking up trash along beaches for over a dozen years. My mission began when I moved from Bondi Beach, to L.A. Originally, I would just pick up Styrofoam cups and bring them to the local 7-11, but I soon realised that this wasn’t really attacking the root problem. needed a creative way to draw attention to it. The idea of making detritus into art began in 2009 with the realisation that the waste we create always comes back to haunt us.

    Just fantastic. I have done the same when on holiday and made pretty good sculptures.
