One of my favorite things about my trips there. First had shakshuka at The King David hotel in my first visit with a tour group, they had a buffet there, for lack of a better term. Had it, fell in love. So much flavor and it's really healthy too! And it's relatively easy to make!

To each their own, of course, but I feel like I'm the only woman in the US who doesn't like crepes. It's like pumpkin spice. Some woman are really just obsessed with crepes. And like pumpkin spice, I hate them. I don't get the appeal. It's like a thin wrapper that has no flavor stuffed with sweet stuff or too much fruit. Give me a nice omelet or some toast, sausages, bacon, english muffins, or real pancakes over this anytime. Now I want breakfast for dinner.

I can't get either of those products at any restaurants where i live but i see you can buy it in stores to make it yourself. I just looks like cream of wheat to me. I actually love cream of wheat so maybe I'd like this but it isn't something i'd want to eat with meat or fish. I'm so food-sheltered!

Grits are a type of porridge made from boiled cornmeal. Hominy grits are a type of grits made from hominy – corn that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization, with the pericarp removed. Grits are often served with flavorings as a breakfast dish. [plagiarized from Wikipedia]. Frequently served with just butter and salt [army breakfast].

It looks like autocorrect incorrectly corrected it. It should be “hominy”

I'm sorry for not mentioning the location earlier. But since I'm awake now I'll say it. This is eaten in the northern part of Nigeria, especially the north east. Its not a very common dish. Its for the 'poor'. Because here the average Poorman can't afford rice. Therefore corn or maize is cooked with beans in place of rice and eaten with whatever condiments available.

They look like black eyed peas, or field peas, which is sometimes mixed with corn in the US to make Hoppin’ John. Looks yummy!

I love chickpeas! When I used to live in Spain, there were a number of stews that includes chickpeas as a main ingredient like "garbanzos a la catalana" .

This is a traditional dish in Portugal. It´s a mix of boiled vegetables and all kinds of meat. The most complete version is made with: 2 types of cabbage (white and green), potato, carrot, turnip, chickpeas, rice, chicken (breast or leg), beef, several parts of pork (belly, ribs, smoked ear) and several types of traditional sausages (smoked pork - chouriço, blood sausage - negro, rice sausage - morcela de arroz and pork fat and flour sausage - farinheira).
