Jimmy Fallon Wants People To Describe A Movie Badly, Gets 40 Hilarious Responses
Nothing can ruin a movie more than a badly written summary. But by bringing a cinema masterpiece from hero to zero, a bad summary can be a work of art in itself. Just think of The Matrix described as a movie about a guy who switches up his medication and dodges a literal bullet. (Weird eyerolls).
This was, in fact, Jimmy Fallon’s own response to his new hashtag challenge. “Take a movie and give it a funny or weird summary, and tag it with #DescribeAMovieBadly,” he announced on Twitter recently, sparking a flow of purposefully poor film descriptions.
Today, we selected some of the best of the worst examples that you can scroll through below, upvote your favorites and be sure to share your versions of #DescribeAMovieBadly in the comments! Oh, and don’t forget to check out Fallon’s previous viral challenges with #MyWeirdRoommate, #AddAWordRuinAMovie and #WeddingFail.

Jimmy Fallon’s hashtag challenges for The Tonight Show on NBC are among the most popular sketches on the show. Every Thursday, the Brooklyn-born comedian invites the Twitter community to share stories on one of many requested tags—from #MyDumbInjury to #WorstRoadTripEver. He then reads them out loud on the show, making everyone burst into laughter.
But not everyone is impressed by the trend of spelling hashtags out loud. One particular skit by Fallon seven years ago caught the attention of Chris Messina, the founder of the hashtag. During the sketch, Fallon and Justin Timberlake talked about mundane things, "hashtagging" everything until the discussion made little sense. Messina commented that “what Fallon has depicted is actually how teenagers are talking now… and I’m kind of like, ‘Oh God… what have I done?'” Is it really so wrong to have a tiny bit of fun with these nerdy metadata tags?
Bored Panda reached out to Twitter user Mel, @Melissadoyle98, who tweeted “Shrek: a guy learns to love a girl without her Instagram filters #DescribeAMovieBadly” in response to Jimmy Fallon’s challenge.
“I came up with my description of Shrek when I was sitting at my desk and actually thought about the movie, how Fiona never told Shrek she was an ogre until they were getting married at the end of the movie,” Mel recounted. She always kept it a secret. She was a beautiful stunning princess to his face during the day and once night came she hid away and turned into an ogre.”
When asked whether a bad movie description would ruin a movie for her, Mel said that she doubts it, although sometimes “it doesn’t fully explain what happens during the plot.” However, when it comes to Shrek, nothing could convince her it’s a film not worthy of her time. “I will always love it and continue to watch it to this day,” she said.
To be fair, it is said that it was originally meant to be an euphenism for growing up.
Moreover, Donald Trump has also helped Jimmy’s Twitter account to get attention. Back in June, Trump attacked Fallon for apologizing for having the then-presidential candidate on his chat show and playfully ruffling his hair. Trump told Fallon to “be a man.”
I preferred when it was described as something like "Two war veterans team up to beat up an orphan."
