Marie Curie Was A Polish Scientist Famous For Her Work On Radioactivity, The First Woman To Win A Nobel Prize And The Only Woman To Win Twice
What makes her badass is, she was the first EVER woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the ONLY woman (to date) to win TWO nobel prizes
Not only woman, but only HUMAN who ever got two Nobel prizes in two different categories :)
Load More Replies...Her daughter also won a nobel prize for discovering artificial radioactivity, both of them died of cancer due to their studies
Marie didn't die of cancer but of aplastic anemia. Of course it was due to radiation exposure as you said.
Load More Replies...Except her name is MARIA SKŁODOWSKA. She just happened to marry a Frenchie by the name of Curie. But she kept using her Polish surname. It's a bitter irony that she's remembered as Curie, as many not-overly-educted persons think she was French. By the way, same with Szopen (another Pole you know as Monsieur Chopin) and Kopernik (Copernicus), etc. etc.
She also keept doin the research even tho she knows it was bad for her health!
There is a new polish movie comingabout her - http://www.filmweb.pl/film/Maria+Sk%C5%82odowska-Curie-2016-739462
and who knows how much more she accomplished but will never get credit for because a man took the credit instead.
PLEASE CHANGE HER SURNAME INTO SKŁODOWSKA- CURIE SHE IS NOT CURIE , THAT'S HER HUSBAND NAME ...OMG...BUZZFEED C'MONE
History of Science and Medicine - science was such a boys club around that time so it was also showing them that women could contribute and use their brains as well as the men, she's one of those that pioneered way for women in workforce
Wonderful achievements, oh to have a brain like hers! Too bad the Nobel prize has been devaluated now.
Brilliant badass! Too bad the Nobel prize is no longer as prestigious as it once was. They have much lower standards these days.
Can you imagine the barriers men of her time were setting for her and all that pressure they would put her through just to bring her down? Amazing
About the only one in the list that truly fits the "changed the world" bit in the title.
She was 100% Polish, born and raised in Warsaw. Her husband was French. Her name is Maria SKŁODOWSKA Curie.

Just wanna say that despite of the fact that some Muslim countries are now infamous with how they treat women, back then during the times of prophet Muhammad both women and men did receive educational teaching..for an example, the wife of prophet Muhammad,Aisha is one of the most influential muslims when it comes to teaching the people about Islam..and during the abassid caliphate, both women and men were taught in the same school regardless of the gender...it was until now suddenly some Muslim countries decided that muslim women should be treated differently compared to men.. im not sure about the reason honestly but anybody who actually learns about Islamic history would understand how islam is a religion which knowledge and wisdom are important for both men and women ..not only the islamic teaching itself but this includes medical, literature and other teachings..sorry for my bad English.
Prophet Muhammad also married Khadijah (RA), an older divorced woman. At that time, it was taboo for divorced women to re-marry (or get a divorce). She was about 20 years older than the Prophet, too.

Load More Replies...What makes a tattoo artist (Maud Stevens Wagner) worthy enough to be on this list whether a man or a woman? I mean, what does it mean? C**p!
It was a pretty significant taboo to eschew, at a time when everything about a woman's body and appearance was dictated by patriarchal society even more so than today. Tattooed women at the turn of the century and before were considered pariahs or confined to circus freak shows. It's not the tattooing itself. It's the implications of defiance by this woman and others.

Nellie Bly was an amazing badass woman! In the early 1880s she responded to a sexist article in a newspaper and her response was so fantastic that she was offered a journalist job. She became and investigative reporter and often went undercover to expose terrible working conditions and the mistreatment of people. She began applied for a job at the World Newspaper in New York and was turned away. She said she would get them an incredible story for the job and she did. She got herself admitted to a mental hospital for Ten Days and then wrote an article about the conditions. That article changed how the mentally ill were treated in New York. When the book "Around the World in Eighty Days" came out and was a smash hit she said she could do it faster. She went on a crazy round the world trip and did it in 72 days. She was an incredible woman and I encourage you to find out more about her: http://www.biography.com/people/nellie-bly-9216680#bellevue-hospital-expos%C3%A9

Activists rarely change anything. They're usually just wannabes and showboats. They shouldn't be in "changed the world" lists, regardless of the gender.
Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Malala, Harriet Tubman, Greta Thunberg. The only way anything gets done is activists. Now ditch your pessimistic attitude and go get help.
Load More Replies...Just wanna say that despite of the fact that some Muslim countries are now infamous with how they treat women, back then during the times of prophet Muhammad both women and men did receive educational teaching..for an example, the wife of prophet Muhammad,Aisha is one of the most influential muslims when it comes to teaching the people about Islam..and during the abassid caliphate, both women and men were taught in the same school regardless of the gender...it was until now suddenly some Muslim countries decided that muslim women should be treated differently compared to men.. im not sure about the reason honestly but anybody who actually learns about Islamic history would understand how islam is a religion which knowledge and wisdom are important for both men and women ..not only the islamic teaching itself but this includes medical, literature and other teachings..sorry for my bad English.
Prophet Muhammad also married Khadijah (RA), an older divorced woman. At that time, it was taboo for divorced women to re-marry (or get a divorce). She was about 20 years older than the Prophet, too.

The picture of the woman with the handbag hitting the neo-nazi is from Varberg Sweden, not Växjö.
I think this woman is missing: Berta Cáceres, a Honduran environmental activist, who was assassinated in her home for her activities protecting rivers and forests. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berta_C%C3%A1ceres I couldn't find a high-res picture
An inordinate number of Muslim women that seems especially unusual given their present grotesque oppression.
