Baby Reindeer’s Real Martha Fiona Harvey Breaks Her Silence, Reveals She Sent Fewer Than 10 Emails

Fiona Harvey, the woman who has claimed to be the real Martha and the infamous stalker from Netflix’s hit show Baby Reindeer, said she was forced into confirming her identity after “internet sleuths” found her in a new bombshell interview appearing on Piers Morgan’s Piers Morgan Uncensored tonight (May 9).

The Scottish law graduate didn’t watch the popular series, but she did, however, find the whole thing “obscene.”

Highlights
  • Fiona Harvey denied all the stalking allegations and said she planned to sue Richard, Netflix, and the Daily Mail.
  • Fiona admitted to similarities with Netflix's Martha but denied sending 44,000 messages.
  • She claimed to have sent Richard fewer than ten emails.

Starting her conversation with the 59-year-old British journalist, the woman, who was portrayed as an obsessive and dangerous person on one of the most popular Netflix shows, said: “I find it horrifying, misogynistic.”

She received death threats as a result of BabyReindeer, Fiona stated. “People phoning me up. You know, it’s been absolutely horrendous. I wouldn’t give credence to something like that, and it’s not really my kind of drama.”

“I’ve come off Facebook as of yesterday,” Fiona told Piers as she went on to react to clips circulating on social media that debate the Netflix show.

“He’s got severe psychiatric problems,” the Scottish woman said of Richard as she pointed to one of the commentaries shown by Piers, which suggested the series writer purposely made Martha physically look like her.

In Baby Reindeer, Martha meets Donny Dunn (portrayed by Richard) at the pub where he works. After offering Martha some tea, she subsequently becomes fixated with him.

During the interview, Fiona confirmed that she met Richard at the pub he was employed at, too, but she clarified that the actor didn’t offer her a cup of tea but, rather, interrupted her conversation, displaying an obsession with her from that moment onward.

Fiona denied sending 44,000 messages to the Netflix star, but she did admit to having similarities with the series’ version of Martha, such as being “Scottish” and having “dark hair.”

Just like Netflix’s Martha, Fiona really did have a stuffed reindeer toy, Fiona revealed.

“I had a toy reindeer, and he’d shaved his head, that bit is true, and there were reindeers in the shops because it was Christmas time or something,” she said. “It was a joke. So, I have inadvertently penned the name of the show.”

“I’m not technology wiz kid of the year,” the 58-year-old woman told Piers as he questioned her about the infamous “sent from an iPhone” signature depicted on Baby Reindeer.

“I would love to see Netflix’s evidence for that,” Fiona said after clarifying that she had sent him a “handful” of emails before saying she sent him a total of “10.”

The law graduate from the University of Aberdeen admitted tweeting (currently known as X posts) Richard 18 times, sending fewer than ten emails, and sending him one letter but denied messaging him on Facebook.

The interviewee denied ever contacting Richard’s parents or staying outside his girlfriend’s house, just wandering around, as the series suggested.

“No, I don’t think he had a girlfriend. I think he’s, say, homosexual. But no, I have never been to his house or attacked any girlfriend or anything like that,” Fiona said.

In the series, Martha locates Donny’s girlfriend, Keeley (played by Shalom Brune-Franklin), and their home, subsequently intruding into their lives before stationing herself outdoors at a nearby bus stop for days without budging.

“I don’t know where he lived,” Piers’ guest said.

In Netflix’s version of the events, Martha attacks Teri (played by Nava Mau) in a fit of jealous rage, where she also proceeds to misgender her. In Baby Reindeer, Teri’s transgender identity is highlighted.

But the relentless accused pursuer rejected this ever happened in real life.

“That’s not very flattering,” Fiona told Piers as he noted her resemblance again to Martha after playing a segment of the series.

The Central Belt native affirmed, “I’m not a stalker, I’ve never been to jail, I’ve not got injunctions. And this is just complete nonsense,” as she stressed that she had never been charged with an offense.

Fiona claimed neither Netflix nor Richard had contacted her prior to making the show.

“They’re milking it for all of what it’s worth,” Fiona said of a clip of Richard being interviewed along with actress Jessica Gunning, who played Martha.

“I should’ve never gone in that bar,” Fiona went on to say as she recalled the time she met Richard.

The proclaimed non-stalker categorically refuted “smashing up a bar,” sexually assaulting the writer in a canal, and ever going to prison.

As the Scottish woman expressed doubt regarding Richard’s sexual assault allegations, which he explicitly portrayed on the show, Piers went on to read Tweets dating back to 2014, where Fiona joked about getting her “curtains hung.”

“We were just trying to encourage him for his show,” Fiona explained. Baby Reindeer viewers would remember the Tweets being replicated in the series.

“Didn’t think he was a total psychopath who was going to attack me in that way,” Fiona exclaimed.

She appeared in a revealing interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored

Fiona claimed she “walked” and denied being “sacked” by Scottish Solicitor Laura Wray.

Laura previously expressed that Fiona falsely accused both her and her spouse, Labour MP Jimmy Wray, of assaulting their three-year-old boy, who suffers from a rare chromosomal disorder.

“Leave me alone please, get a life, get a proper job,” Fiona told Piers after being asked what she would’ve liked to tell Richard.

The woman claimed her current boyfriend was a lawyer and that she planned to sue Richard, Netflix, and the Daily Mail.

“That’s completely untrue,” the alleged stalker responded to all the accusations made against her, including sending thousands of emails and sexually assaulting the 34-year-old comedian.

Fiona suggested Richard had probably forged the 105 hand-written letters he alleged to possess, which he claimed she had sent him.

The “real Martha” went on to admit that she had “four to six” different email accounts in addition to “four phones.”

The woman confessed to not being friends with the writer, adding, “I don’t fancy little boys without jobs.”

“He’s making money out of untrue fact, he’s the ultimate misogynist,” Fiona exclaimed as she speculated Richard had made around £3 to 4 million.

She denied sending 44,000 messages and discussed her lack of tech prowess

Fiona said she would agree to take a lie detector test after Piers challenged her academic past at the University of Aberdeen.

“I have to tell white lies when I have to,” the law graduate told the Uncensored host as he explained criminals were good liars.

Continuing to deny all allegations made against her, Fiona said that she had phoned Richard not more than six times.

Concluding the interview, Fiona said: “I think you should look at the number of articles that Richard Gadd and Jessica the actress have done and how he and Netflix have promoted this.

“I think you should look at him saying I’m some sort of mental case and judge for yourselves.”

She claimed limited contact with Richard and urged scrutiny of Netflix’s promotional tactics

“Because I can’t change your mind on this, I can just rebut what has been said, you need to make up your own mind.

“But my mind is made up, he’s a liar, and my friends say likewise.”

Following Richard’s success with his series based on his life, Fiona started garnering attention when her purported Facebook profile surfaced, revealing frequent postings of bizarre statements.

On May 2, she threatened legal action against Stephen King in addition to announcing that she was ready to publish her own book.

And last month, she warned about taking legal action against Netlfix, expressing her discontentment to several British media outlets.

The drama-thriller recounts Richard’s experience of being stalked by a mentally ill woman while he was a bartender at The Hawley Arms in Camden, London. In the show, the obsessive stalker Martha is portrayed by Jessica Cunning.

Given the show’s popularity, reaching number 1 on Netflix charts in over 30 countries, it was just a matter of time before the Internet sleuths collectively discovered the stalker’s real identity.

Fiona shares many similarities with Martha’s character: they’re both Scottish, around 20 years older than Gadd, studied law at university, and have a history of stalking.

You can watch the whole interview below:

In an Instagram story shared on April 22, Richard requested that fans not dig deeper into the people who inspired his abusers on the show, including a successful TV writer who sexually assaulted him.

“Hi, everyone. People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation,” the 34-year-old wrote.

“Please don’t speculate on who any of the real-life people could be. That’s not the point of our show. Lots of love, Richard.”

The show’s creator isn’t the only one to have raised concerns about viewers’ attempts to uncover the characters’ true identities.

“You’re next Piers,” a viewer warned

Ah yes, because Piers Morgan's show is exactly where you go to prove that you're not a crank or a stalker. The show hosted by the guy who oversaw a major phone hacking scandal that included the phone of a teenage girl who'd been kidnapped and murdered. That guy. That's who you talk to. Uh huh.

I can't believe that snivelling, lying, arrogant, narcisstic hypocrite is actually showing their face on TV, and Martha doesn't seem all that pleasant or trustworthy either.

This loony should be thanking Jessica Gunning for making her seem so sympathetic. Also, Piers Morgan should be stapled to the underside of a ferry.

Can we please stop using the phrase "breaks her silence?" I'm tied of it. This woman has been vocal this whole time, she was never "silent." This interview is like days after the show came out. She was tweeting about it since day 1. If she sat down to an interview in 5 years, then maybe it's ok to use the phrase "breaks her silence."

So... by her own admission she contacted him 29 times from about 10 different sources. She calls the show "untrue facts". I mean.. that's fiction, right? He never named her, and asked people not to try to find out who she was, he only wrote a story inspired by the things she did. I don't know, maybe there's something illegal or immoral about making it so easy to figure out who she was. But he never claimed that she really did everything in the show. I suggest we just leave her alone and treat the TV show as a largely fictional depiction of things that really do happen to people, and leave it at that.

"He's making money off of untrue facts". Um.... that's called fiction. Pretty much every movie/show based on irl events include embellishments, simply because some things don't play out as well on screen, and for pure entertainment value. Most are closer to "this irl event gave me a good idea for a script" than they are to being as factual as possible. Most tv sleuths who try and seek out real people that a story is based on are generally trolls and best avoided and ignored. Sadly, the more she fights this, the more she's egging them on, and the worst it will be for her.

They have some of the worst censorship I’ve ever seen on website- my account I had for nine years was banned because I told a troll that was using a hateful slur against trans people to “go play in a blender.” I’d jump ship if I was you. It’s sad to see what this site has become.

It’s unfair that people dug up her identity and harassed her. It’s unfair that Gadd made a show about a clearly mentally ill woman; that’s just exploitation of an ill person who needs help, but instead she’s being mocked, bullied, and more or less parodied for the sake of Netflix fame. The amount of cruel people commenting about her shows how callous the general public is.

You realise that the number of men referring themself to sexual abuse services has increased by 53% in the UK since Baby Reindeer aired? It's had a positive impact for people. You clearly haven't watched it, because the viewer feels very sad for "Martha". It's carefully done so as NOT to be a parody of her and she is by no means the villain of the piece.
