Each Month I Created Princess Costumes For My Baby Girl To Cope With Postpartum Depression
What started as a fun $20 craft project turned into a way for me to cope with postpartum depression and bond with my daughter. I am NOT a professional seamstress, but I was inspired by my mother to hand sew costumes each month because of an Ariel costume she made for me when I was little. I’m sharing my story to let other struggling moms know they aren’t alone and hopefully the pictures will brighten someone’s day!

Share on FacebookI'm loving these. I wish PPD wasn't real. I don't remember much of my daughter's baby years due to it. I spent most of it crying and being miserable when I had no reason to be. No one understood. Kudos to you for turning it into something artistic and beautiful.
Thank you, and thank you for sharing your PPD experience. It is very confusing and frustrating how you are so happy to have a wonderful baby and don’t understand why you’re so sad, it is hard to explain.
Load More Replies...Your baby is beautiful, and you're blessed with a wonderful mind for turning such a hard predicament like PPD into such fairytaley dresses and pictures (even if you weren't the photographer yourself). I hope once your daughter is grown you both can look back at those pictures with joy.
Thank you. I’m fortunate Heather and Lisa (photographers I mentioned) came into my life and helped me through this journey. It definitely wasn’t easy dealing with PPD, but I can’t help but be happy when I look at these pictures!
Load More Replies...What a sweet gorgeous little button she is. I hope your PPD has disappeared or will disappear soon.
Thank you so much. I’m happy to say that I’m in a much better place now.
Load More Replies...Looks like this definitely helped with the PPD. What blows my mind is that she is not a professional seamstress. Amazing!
I will admit that some fabric glue was used on a few of these ☺️ But thank you!
Load More Replies...Aww thank you, that was a fun day at the beach!
Load More Replies...Sorry I didn’t include it! We threw her an under the sea first birthday party and I didn’t finish the Ariel costume in time :( so I’m going to save it for Halloween.
Load More Replies...Haha sorry to disappoint. Ariel is my favorite and I threw my daughter an under the sea themed birthday party, but I wasn’t able to finish the costume in time 😩
Load More Replies...So sweet. I tried taking photos of my daughter each month too. It was SO hard! well done to you, these are amazing!
Thank you :) some months were harder than others, it will definitely be something I look back on and smile

Load More Replies...So beautiful!! I hope to see more in the future!!! Awesome job turning a painful/confusing experience into beautiful art!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures!
Load More Replies...I like how it progresses, the art gets more confident and expressive as time goes on.
Thanks, ya I eyeballed how much fabric and just guessed where to cut, so overtime I got more and more confident with how to dress her and create the costumes :) it was a learning experience haha but thank you!
Load More Replies...I´m loving how you´re channeling your depression into something creative. It´s beautiful what you´ve made. Keep powering through. I´ve not had PPD, but I struggle with depression so I can understand that bit. Your daughter is just adorable. Those eyes, super cute!!
Thank you Helena, I appreciate the kind words and I wish you the best with your depression.
Load More Replies...I wasn’t sure what to put haha thanks
Load More Replies...Thank you! It was hard narrowing it down to just one picture to share haha but we had so much fun.
Load More Replies...What a beautiful child. You are incredibly talented to have made such gorgeous outfits. I have a big smile on my face from looking at these pictures.
Aww thank you, and good, I’m so happy to hear they made you smile!
Load More Replies...What a creative and beautiful way to fight PPD. In a few years your daugther will appriciate your work/art again. She's a cutie!
Thank you! I sure how she likes playing dress up with some of the costumes because I added a little extra fabric to some of the corsets and skirts. I’m debating on making a little story book for her with the pictures and writing what happened that day. For example, she could sit up on her own when we took the Jasmine photo.
Load More Replies...Everything about this project is simply exquisite : the baby, the outfits, the pictures. Wonderful job, Mama!
Thank you very much, I’m glad you like the pictures!
Load More Replies...I wish I could keep making more and more costumes but I need to take a little break haha my mom told me I should sew all the villains next :)
Load More Replies...Those lips on your baby are the most beautiful lips I've ever seen. She's so beautiful
Thanks, she has certainly mastered the pouty look haha we love her very much
