Life isn’t always sunny days and crisp mornings. There are bleak moments that give us all a reality check about the existence of the positives and negatives, the good and the bad.

This is why online groups like Awful Everything exist. The page bio states that it “views all things that are just genuinely awful,” and you will see it as you scroll through. It features unfortunate events and shames people who commit despicable acts.

We’ve picked out some images that stood out. Just a heads up, this list may make you shake your head in disbelief and disappointment.

Shades of Walter White being forced to do manual labour at the carwash to compensate for his miserable teacher's salary. You can kinda see why he ended up turning evil.

We often see messages encouraging happiness and positivity while blocking out negative things. According to life and careers coach Helen Dillon, this mindset isn’t beneficial. As she tells Healthline, it hinders us from critically analyzing our current situation.

“Positivity is a good mindset to have, but embracing the negative moments in our lives is what keeps us real,” she said.

There are no words to describe how much I hate the insurance industry. And I live in a country with universal healthcare, so l'm not directly affected, but they're predatory soulless c***s who feast on people's tragedies. It's currently happening in Valencia. Insurance companies won't pay based on a clause of "extraordinary weather phenomenon"

Why does this happen, in NZ, Aus, Uk we have a public health system that anyone can access! This is ridiculous!! USA is definitely not the home of the free. It's only fit for the wealthy and it's gonna get worse.

I pay 600 a month and all 4 covered family members have a 3000 dollar deductible... What's the point? I don't ever see a doctor but at least my kids can

You kind of answered your own point..... The point is that healthcare and insurance in the US should be that way. You shouldn't have to neglect your health just so your kids can (and I'm not judging because I am in the same boat).

I've requested to be billed for my deductible after being hospitalized in an emergency, and the hospital allowed it. They didn't let me die of asthma while I scrambled to dig out the cash (also in the US). I wonder if that patient asked to speak to accounting for a payment arrangement. Some people, when pressured, don't know they can press back for assistance. A fracture needing surgery sounds like an emergency to me.

Right? The dr or hospital is the one demanding all the money up front, but they managed to shift all the blame to insurance. Many people I know would gladly and happily pay out on a payment plan but the providers want their cut up front.

Oh no so terrible hope he get the surgery and hope for the option of a payment plan when they bill!? Or go into medical debt it sounds better than the other problems listed here if he doesn't get it fixed. This is so real and sad

So why didn't you offer to waive the deductible or offer a payment plan?

The insurance company is on control of the deductible. Mine is $2000 and the first $2000 I get charged for any medical procedures I have to pay. The only way the doctor can insure the guy doesn't pay anything is to do it for free. Along with the anesthesiologist, the hospital, and every other entity involved also doing it for free.

Tell him to move to California and get Medi-cal. I am a teacher and couldn't afford my cancer surgery on my 60% health insurance coverage Blue Cross plan so I quit work, got on Medi-cal, got cancer treatments, then dropped my Medi-cal to resume work again. If his income is zero, he qualifies. This is why I'm not a Republican.

Insurance is basically an employee discount card on medical services. And it's a horrible 10% off, not even a good friends and family discount. So yes, we go without, we slowly breakdown until we just decide fixing the ol jalopy isn't worth it anymore and then we just die. Because we can't afford to do anything else. Forget about our vanity parts like eyes and teeth.

In case anyone is in this position, I have known people who have gone through with medical procedures that they knew they couldn't afford and then ignored the bills. I don't know if this would work for everyone but in all the cases I've heard of, after a while it gets sent to collections and the collection agency hassles them by phone until they give up and send it to another collections agency, eventually it gets to an agency that offers to settle the debt for like a third of what they owe. I'm pretty sure that in America you cannot be forced into bankruptcy for medical debt. They can't foreclose on your house or collect your assets for it. The system's terribly broken, but at least that one thing seems to work.

Shane S

Why couldn’t you let him pay out his deductible over time? The medical provider is the one demanding the full payment up front. I get that deductibles are terrible and insurance has some blame, but medical providers in the US have done an amazing job shifting that blame off of them when they are the ones that are requiring full payment all at once.

I need to have a cardiac tracker implanted. The first time I was scheduled I found out I had breast cancer and that had to take precedence. Dr scheduled it again and, after adding up all the bills for the cancer treatment and medication, I had to cancel again. I simply couldn't afford any more. I understand this poor patient's fears.

I feel this. I need an implant tooth for one I had to have removed b/c it was so cracked. AFTER insurance, they still want $3000 thereabouts. I'm like yeah no. That's twice what I pay for rent. Sooooo, I can wait till next year when my insurance resets or try to come up with that AND still make my bill payments. (And eat)

I have had 2 teeth removed that have cracked cause it was only $300ish as apposed to like $750(minimum depending on dentist) to get them fixed. They are molars so not super visible they are gone and don't affect eating so I deal with them being gone.

As psychotherapist Gillian Fagan points out, negativity is also innate in humans. It is called a negativity bias, where we naturally expect the worst to come.

Fagan states that catastrophizing is rooted in our instinct for survival, and focusing too much on the positive may magnify feelings of failure when things don’t go our way.

Even if I wasn't poor I would buy most of my clothes from the op shop (thrift store). It is pretty common where I live (except maybe in certain suburbs) for people (mostly women) to brag about the deals they have gotten from the op shop. I have a handbag shaped like a book that has gotten a lot of compliments and at least twice it has led to me chatting about deals from op shops with random women at the bar.

Unpleasantries are a part of life, and it’s all about embracing their presence. Motivation Science Professor Dr. Bobby Hoffman notes that people who are more inclined to accept the negativity around them have better mental health. It all comes down to emotional regulation.

In an article for Psychology Today, Dr. Hoffman defines this as the conscious alteration of the appraisal and assessment of the emotion, which, in effect, neutralizes the negative consequences.

So, what is the shortest path to emotional regulation? Dr. Hoffman suggests restructuring our feelings and responses via simple acts of positive self-talk. It’s also about accepting that bad things happen to everyone, regardless of their personality and the existence of bad karma.

“Repeatedly accepting one's negative thoughts and emotions, rather than judging them, may allow individuals to repeatedly experience less negative emotion,” he wrote.

Ok, so that is slightly less than 2 gallons per hour per passenger, or approximately the same fuel consumption as an average car with a single occupant travelling at 70 mph. That's why modern cruise liners and cargo vessels are so big and carry so many passengers and so much cargo, it all about economy of scale. It may seem counter-intuitive but very large cruise and cargo ships are more efficient on a cargo-ton per mile or passenger number per mile basis than almost any other form of transport.
