Moving to Australia wasn’t something really planed, so I didn’t know much about it. But once there, what an incredible country! Nature is so different from France, colors are vivid and bright, trees and flowers are lush and… instead of pigeons they have cockatoos, even in the cities!
I went to the library and search for a guide about Australian birds. I picked out those I could make with my colored paper and transformed them into abstract displays of paper feathers. Each feather is hand-cut with a scalpel and scissors. It is a very time consuming work but also very meditative. Each artwork has a specific pattern regarding the colors and distinctive attributes of the bird.
I love the fine balance between representation and abstraction, first you see color-blocks and then hundreds of delicate paper feathers. As an artist, I aim to create visual emotions that engage and inspire the viewer. I use paper because it is so versatile, anything can be made out of paper, from minimalist to sophisticated works.
