Australia Is A Whole Different World, And These 50 Photos Are Here To Prove It
"This land is cursed; the animals hop not run, birds run, not fly and the swans are black not white. This land is cursed and I'll have nothing more to do with it," wrote William Dampier, one of the first Europeans to ever explore the continent of Australia, back in 1688.
In case you didn't know, 26 January is the national day of Australia. And what could be a more beautiful way to celebrate the occasion than by honoring all the little things that make this country the beautiful, interesting and absolutely bizarre place that it is. With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through some of our favorite photos shared by people on the interwebs proving that Australia isn't just another country, but a whole different world. As per usual, don't forget to leave a comment here and there and vote for your favorite pics!

Australian Moth
That is a Creatonotos gangis moth. Those terrifying looking tentacles coming out of his butt are coremata and release phenomes to attract the ladies.
These are Creatonotos gangis moths and this one is inflating his scent gland to attract females. The hairs are to wave the smell around haha. Also not specific to Australia, I think mostly Southeast Asia and parts of Australia. Even after knowing what it is, still one ugly m**********r...
I thought about this, and then I decided it's probably best if I don't know.
Load More Replies...There is no way in the deepest depths of hell could you ever convince me that that thing is a moth
I have a friend who is ridiculously scared of moths, it’s stupid... this would give her a heart attack... sending now lol
Hahaha her response was “F*CK OOOOOFFFFFF 😫😫😫😫😫” not even a kiss at the end! Brilliant made me day! Also lead to a fun convo with my other half... considering I’m pretty much a shut in now it was nice not to be boring for a change! I appreciate this post more than the postee can know ❤️
Load More Replies...Especially the male of the species with its inflated, pheromone-producing tentacles out?
Load More Replies...I think I’ll stick to the cute, furry moths that don’t look like a Lovecraftian monster
ugh there's was this one moth in my bedroom last n- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MMMMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd
First of all, moths don't eat insects. Secondly, that's the moth's butt end.
Load More Replies...I have 3 older brothers, when the snakes didn't bother me they found out that putting creepy crawlies in my hair (down to my rear) on my shirt, anywhere made me run away. How to get rid of the kid sister and make her hate anything that crawls (with legs) or flys

What? No pics of those Funnel Trap spiders to make me toss my laptop across the room?
Only ever see photo's of these moths, never seen the real thing. I believe these are from the South East coast
I am NEVER going to Australia. I'm sure they'll be devastated to know that but I'm sticking with little old England.
For entering your skull to lay its eggs, so it’s little babies can feed on your brain. They’re great parents!
This moth has its scent organs extended, to help it attract a mate (I think it's a male). When the scent glands are retracted inside it, it looks like a normal moth. But yeah, like this, it's kinda gross looking lol.
Magnificent - one way of letting the ladies know you're available!
I am thinking maybe "Down Under" is the Australian term for "The Upside Down", because that is sure as heck what that thing looks like it sure as heck escaped from...
I usually don't have problems with insects but this one is... well unappetising to say the least.. Is it really one bug? Or is the moth infected with something and is bursting out?
I hate moths and butterflies. Imagine your aunt getting you a close-up calendar of butterflies each year.

Load More Replies...It's funny as an Australian seeing all these non-Australians freak out over all this stuff. For real, the chances of seeing the actual dangerous animals is pretty slim, I live on a property in rural Queensland and I rarely see any of the actual dangerous animals.
Most dangerous thing in Australia is the sun. Worst sunburn of my life... Bondi beach.

No snakes in Ireland and it's cold, if I move I'll gladly come to live there. I don't support the high heat in summer and don't want to a have a snake in my toilet.
