30 Women Ask Their Crushes Out On A Valentine’s Day Date And Post Their Reactions On Twitter
It seems like everything can be turned into an 'Internet challenge' these days, with Twitter, in particular, the place to be if you wish to test yourself out and upload the results for the entertainment of others. Just recently we had women freaking out their boyfriends by randomly texting “I want a baby” to them. And then, of course, there was the 10-year challenge, which the cynic in me felt was a bit of a 'humblebrag,' and a convenient excuse to share yet another selfie.
The next challenge to go viral is the Valentine's day challenge, started by London-based author and podcaster Oloni. She asked ladies to confess their feelings to their secret crush and ask them out on the first date for Valentine's day. Because sometimes we all need a little push to get out of our comfort zones, don't we?

Many women, inspired by others taking control of the situation rather than waiting passively to be noticed, took on the Valentine's day date challenge. The results were... varied. Some ended in a cute and heartwarming affirmation of mutual attraction, while others were just plain hilarious. And as you can imagine, there were plenty of awkward moments in this Twitter thread, too.
According to reports, Oloni started the challenge as a way for women to break the stereotype that women shouldn't make the first move when it comes to finding love. She hopes that the challenge can help to prove that having a crush and asking him out is nothing to be afraid of, and women can be confident in asking out anyone that they fancy. Bored Panda has contacted Oloni for further comment.

Well, it is not AS stupid as similiar post about having babies. And, in some cases, it worked. Still, I would feel strange and sorry, knowing that someone invited me on a date just to fulfill the Twitter task. For me, details from my personal life, like dating, babies, relationships, are not something to play with and to share with strangers. It seems kinda like betraying the other person and their feelings, doesn't it?

The challenge can be the final motivation to make someone do what they have been wanting for years. If it encourages people to open up it’s a good thing.

Why would you assume they did it to fulfill a Twitter task? I think most if not all did it because they genuinely liked the person but were too scared to ask them out, and the Twitter challenge just inspired them to take the risk. Peer pressure can inspire positive actions not just negative ones. 🙂

As long as they're not playing, whatever reason they find courage to ask is fine. It's a great compliment to hear someone has a big crush on you. only it would suck if you didn't "like" them back. How do you say "go back to the friend zone?" without crushing them?

This is why we need feminism. And it sucks if a woman comes up and says 'I had a crush on you when we first met, but you never asked me out'. You could've asked me! I was trying to not act like a perv!

Thats what I thought - asking someone if they fancied catching up for a couple of drinks on any random day is one thing, but to be your "Date" - on Valentines day, the most romantic day of the year.Way too much. If I liked the person I would make an excuse and suggest meeting up on another day.

The best things happen when people realise they really like someone. Inviting a person who you suspect didnt even really know you on an official "Valentines date"?? No way. can just see so many opportunities for someone to accept - and the original inviter was just having a laugh

So, maybe I'm old-fashioned but is it now okay to ask people out on a date via text?!?! I mean, would it be okay if the genders were reversed and a guy was asking a girl out by text? Seems lame to me.

How else should you ask for a date? Stalking peoples workplaces or homes and show up there? Or ask with other people around to let peer pressure work for you? And don't forget people who are just shy and want to save face. But I guess they are just unromantic and lame.

How about - if you know their phone number, you likely have spoken to them in the past, right? So, grow a set of balls and go ask them in person like a respectful human being. Rejection is part of life, you need to experience it from time to time - it sucks but it's reality.

A text is fine - if it is just an invite out for a couple of drinks - but just the very words "CRUSH "DATE" and "VALENTINE" in the same sentence is is pretty off-putting. do they think you are the love of their life - or is it a potential stalker, - or an internet prank - You decide

The weird thing about saying "their crushes", or "who is your crush?" is that it implies that every person is assigned a crush. One and only one crush. You can have a crush on multiple people. Are they all your crushes? It's just odd phrasing. I hope it's just a fad and it goes away.

Ohh - a serious question. We dont need challenges to make idiots of ourselves on social media - we do it in private. are you talking about internet challanges - or real life. Because you can tell in real life if someone likes you - or you like them. Way before even arranging meeting up for a drink or anything at all. Arranging a meal as a first meeting is just awkward. If you are out, having a good night and both feel hungry - great.

I'll never understand why people keep these feelings inside. I mean, I know why, but I think it's short-sighted. If you ask, the worst case scenario is a little bit of embarrassment and maybe a lot of pain. But if you don't ask, you keep yourself in pain forever and deny the chance that the feelings are actually returned. Learn to just ask. Someday, someone will say yes.
