I Explore The Connection Between Darkness And Light

My name is Jovana Rikalo and I am a fine art and portrait photographer. With these photos I wanted to show connection between darkness and light.

I used male hands painted in black to show darkness. Why black? Because black is such a strong and powerful colour. We are living in the world where people are telling you what you need to do, media is controlling you, technology, everything… I wanted to send a message that the only person who can tell you what needs to be done is nobody else but you. Don’t let anybody control you. Everything is in your hands and not others.

So, don’t let anyone that you can’t. Be your own inspiration and believe that you can.

Also take a look into my other photo series of powerful portraits.

Perpetuating stereotypes... clearly no sensitivity to people of colour. There are much better ways of exploring the darkness & light.

She should be considering the racist reading of this imagery - considering the history of blackface. Also, why is the "light" not painted white? That would have made this less racist.

Because not everyone is from the US, not everyone had a history in abusing other skin colored men. That is called a cultural gap

It would have been very interesting if you had darkness portrayed by the girl, and lightness by the man... the girl is very beautiful by the way.

Wow... Darkness is kind of trying to "kill" lightness by always being around her
