Turns out animals are just as anxious and lost in life as we are! I have just discovered these precious comics “Anxious Animals” on Instagram and could basically relate to every one of them. The animals will remind you of those awkward-yet-funny moments you have when reflecting on your daily life.

The artist, named Amee Wilson, told Bored Panda: “I was stuck in lockdown in Australia and feeling pretty anxious (like the rest of the country). And so I started drawing how I was feeling but spoken by animals. It kinda made the feelings feel a bit less dark! And people just started responding really positively so I just kept making them. I think everyone is just feeling all the same things, but they're hard to talk about!”

When asked about personal attachment to these comics, Amee said she can personally relate to most of them: “I started it as an outlet for how I was feeling myself. Whether it's loneliness, self-doubt, or just not wanting to get out of bed!” As for choosing the animals, Amee always tries to pick the ones that make sense with the story and the chosen animals would be likely to feel those emotions.

Even the most talented creators need some inspiration at times. Amee says there are a lot of other artists she likes. For comics particularly, she is influenced by popular creators like Strange Planet, War and Peas, and Liz Climo. She also follows smaller artists who inspire her to try and experiment with her storytelling and style.

Bored Panda also asked the artist about how much time goes into making one of these comics. Amee replied that it varies on a few things, whether it's a 4-square comic or just a single one. Also, how much changes between each frame or if it has a complicated background—it can be anywhere between an hour to 4.

The creator of Anxious Animals is still quite blown away by the reception the comics have had so far and says that it’s been wonderful to create a little community. As for future goals, Amee said: “I think long-term I'd love to turn them into a small book or little postcards so people could share them.”

"Our instinct is to push emotion away. So see if you can observe emotion, without identifying with it. So you notice whatever comes up, but you realize it's just a passing emotion. All emotion comes and goes. It's not you. It's a temporary experience."
