One of the biggest and greatest values that modern western cultures and societies have is freedom. Particularly, the freedom to choose a life they want.
Not every choice is easy, though, because some choose a child-free lifestyle, but that doesn’t slide with folks who are of a more traditional approach. At the very least, it can be annoying.
But there is a dedicated place to celebrate and debate the concept of antinatalism, as seen on Reddit. Scroll down to check out some of the best memes and posts found on the subreddit and remember that it’s all to further a discussion, so join in on the debate.

Old, But Still Awesome
Finally Representation For Society’s Anti Natal Women
So, r/Antinatalism is a subreddit that supports the belief that having kids is morally wrong and can’t be justified.
The subreddit encourages open debate among members (of which there are 215,000 at this point) and visitors alike, as long as everyone treats each other with empathy, compassion and respect.
I’m Speechless
Man that's morbid. The part about projecting grief and identity on the kid is absolutely on point.
Society's Expectation For Having A Dog vs. Having A Child
This is 100% spot on, the amount of kids born to sh!tty parents is alot but if you want to adopt a dog you get hone visits, forms to fill in ect but any junkie can walk out of a hospital with a new born baby 🤯 seen it in Ireland so many times 🤢
None Of This Makes Sense
Not only does it not make sense, current US laws are actively endangering women in so many other ways, by forcing women to carry non-viable pregnancies to the point of severe, sometimes life-altering circumstances. In Louisiana, the abortion laws are so strict that there are cases of women undergoing c-sections to remove non-viable fetuses, rather than having the historically appropriately prescribed abortion. Women, we have a fight on our hands again, and it's a fight we MUST win.
The issue of antinatalism is more than just not wanting to deal with having kids. It doesn’t officially state I don’t wanna as a reason behind it, but nobody’s stopping anyone from assuming that stance.
Anywho, there are a handful of reasons why antinatalists think reproduction is problematic and those can be boiled down to 5 key concepts.
Say It Again Louder For The People In The Back
Or, frankly, I'll sit quietly and enjoy being in the little house I worked hard for.
People should really mind their own business. It's your decision, but everyone thinks they know best.
So Ture
The most straightforward reasons in support of antinatalism are the facts that [1] life entails inevitable suffering and that [2] death is inevitable.
In other words, why put someone through a life of indeterminate length, unknown perils (instant or chronic), struggles, strives and tribulations, for it all to end in an even more unknown end is unpleasant to say the least.
This Is From A Real Anti-Aborter. You Can’t Make This Up… You Just Can't
I hope the kid brings her to court and wins when its older because yes im here in this sh!tty life because you talked an unfit mother into having me
This Is The Way
This also roots into the idea of gambling with another person’s suffering. Sure, some (and, seemingly, a majority) of people turn out happy overall with the lives they lead, but there is never a guarantee for it.
By proxy, extending your gene pool is akin to gambling with another’s suffering.
End This Madness
Should have chosen a different embryo since conservatives can still counter this with "BLUE LIVES MATTER"
Being A Family Never Has To Require Going Through Childbirth
Legendary Stuff
A "bloodline"? 3.8 billion years ago? Like when the first forms of life started evolving? What are you, a proud microorganism?
Then we have the argument of I didn’t ask to be born. It is generally accepted to ask someone for permission, but how do you do that with someone who won’t even be able to make decisions until several years into their life?
The answer in the eyes of the antinatalist is to not even impose that choice by not creating that situation. But it does make you think.
Truth
Life shouldn't be a grudge match in that if it sucked for me, it darned well better suck for you too
The Dream
Is This What Republicans Want To Return To? Life Before Roe V Wade:
So fcking sad, and all caused by the removal of agency over their own bodies
Lastly, some argue that there is an axiological asymmetry—the concept of good things and bad things not always having the same and opposing consequences when they are considered as existing or not existing—between good and bad things. With that logic, coming into existence by means of procreation always turns out to be a harmful thing.
Congratulations Its A Tony
How about a couple of cats and maybe a dog?
The Breeding To Child Abuse Assembly Line
I am not grateful to my parents for food and lodging. I am grateful for the love and respect they show me - and the books, the story telling, and general fun I had in my childhood.
The Only Victim When A Child Is Born, Is The Child. Period
That last argument can be extended to include a more global reasoning.
One of the bigger arguments is sustainable population. This, of course, refers to the idea that the Earth can support so much until it becomes unable to provide enough to people to live, let alone thrive.
Enough Said
I feel for that Columbine Survivor. Can you even imagine the children of Sandy Hook or Uvalde when they become old enough to make that choice as well? Maybe (hopefully) things will be different by then.
I Mean... She Said What We Are All Thinking
I read that as “stop having children you can’t eat” . I must be hungry 😂
Sustainable population estimates range from 650,000 to 9.8 billion, with 8 billion (with 8.1 being the current global population as of this article) being the average of what most think is sustainable.
This, of course, has an impact on how climate change and other Earth-focused issues might be affected on top of sustainability. This is besides the question of how much would be enough to stabilize the planet’s ecosystems?
Actually If You Need Kids To Feel Successful, You’re The Problem
Exactly
And if you hadn't become a better person, then no doubt you would have blamed the kid for ruining your life.
Finally The Truth
Lastly, if we’re thinking about it in simple terms, not everyone truly wants to burden themselves with the vast amounts of responsibility that having kids entails. Financial, social and cultural, structural, moral and ethical—all of this multiplied by three given the current state of the economy, ecology, and world order in general. Nobody needs that stress.
My mum started at me not long after my. 16th birthday about wanting grandkids. I have never wanted kids, she finally stopped talking about them when I was about 32. I have problems, I am overweight, I have mental health troubles and I am a diabetic. There is a history of cancer in my family, my father, Uncle and at least one aunt, all on my fathers side all died of cancer. Why would I want pass my genes on knowing all this?
Lmfao
I've always hated this response from people. Like, well, I'm here now, so quit with the dumb "What if". Sometimes, I caught myself thinking: "Well, if yours hadn't had you, there would be one less person I'd have to hear this b******t from." -.-
Screaming
Whatever the case, it’s a choice and everyone’s free to make it. So, please choose your takes and stories on the matter in the comment section below.
Either that, or choose to take a gander at another similar article we’ve discussed in the past.
It Do Be Like That
Same Here
Yeah, if I had to make the decision again now I wouldn't have kids. Mine are teens and I'm totally crippled with anxiety over their future lives and quite rightly as society probably only got another 50-100 years before total apocalypse so yeah not a good time period to create more people to suffer.
That Would Have Been Pretty.. Pretty.. Pretty Sweet
I wouldn't have a conversation with a brain-dead moron about my body autonomy.
These F**ks Hate Women And They Aren't Even Trying To Hide It Anymore
A little backstory: she went in for medication for cluster headaches. IYKYK. Anyway, the neurologist straight up told her it might interfere with the fetus... if she ever got pregnant. She said if that had zero plans for kids and if she did get pregnant she'd opt for an abortion. He doubled down and said that things were getting trickier on that and that she needed to bring her partner in on the conversation before deciding something like that. She currently has a lawsuit open against the hospital network for discrimination under the ACA's anti-discrimination provisions and the Anti-discrimination Act for prioritizing an imaginary fetus that doesn't even exist over herself.
For Real
We Know A Thing Or Two Because We've Seen A Thing Or Two
Myself/hubby 1 kid and she called me selfish for not giving my kid a sibling.. her my ex friend has 5 kids and 3 in care/2 living with family members
I'm not at all a fan of eugenics or similar practices, but the state of today's world makes me think that there should be at least SOME basic assessment for people who want to reproduce.
Thinking You Can't Love Someone As Much As Your "Own" Child Is Such Nonsense
As someone who was raised by two magnificent women, while being absolutely not blood-related to one of them, I say they don't.
My Kids Will Surely Cure Cancer
No License Needed To Make Babies
Oops!
Just Saying... I Agree. I Mean Have People Seen Our Species?
Same. I believe the world would be better off without our species. I mean, no other species has harmed the planet the way we did (and are)...
Hopeful Living
I Have Never Felt A Meme More
I often think about how freakin' sinister the phrase "earn a living" is.
It's Truly A Mental Disease At This Point
You don't need to get pregnant you need to get out of that marriage and fast.
Parents teach you to stand and fight for your beliefs until these beliefs are different than theirs.
Simple As That
One of my proudest life decisions is to not have kids. Generation after generation of trauma handed down. I am the last of 8 pregnancies. Only 4 of us survived. My parents specifically kept trying until my father had a male heir to carry on the family name. They were terrible and abusive parents. The pain and suffering stops with me. The best part is I was fortunate enough to be born gay. I will be taking my husband's name when/if I get married. That plan brings me joy
I wouldn't mind seeing a few more posts like this! Too often still, parenthood is glorified, so this post was like a refreshing breeze. One little side note, though: Could these simply be refer to as "posts"? Because they sure aren't memes. (That's been bothering me for a while now on BP, no matter how much I love it.)
I'm shocked about the number of people in this thread who wish they wouldn't be alive. I became a mother, because I perceive life as a good thing. It's totally ok if people don't want to have children, I just never realized that this could be the reason for so many to not have them.
But what gives you the right to force life on soneone who never consented? Surely you aren't blind to the wreck of a planet we live on!
Load More Replies...I am still traumatised after reading the one about the woman at Disney World who was so upset about childless couples going there . . . . .
These are mixed ... some are valid reasons for people not wanting to have kids. Like ... just not wanting to. That's fine. Then there are thoses posts where you hope that persone is seeing a shrink because they're not "antinatalist", they're just plain suicidal.
You can be both. Antinatalism is also about the concept on forcing life on someone who never asked for it. Imagine having to deal with being alive and functioning in this world, while being depressed all because some people decided you should be here
Load More Replies...I still laugh when anyone asks "Don't you miss not having kids?" What? How can you miss a 3rd arm or leg when you never had it? And anyone I have met who has kids, and knows I am single with no kids, ALWAYS ask if I will sit with their kid. I'd actually sit with a dog or cat, but NEVER a kid. And they NEVER ask a man these questions!!!!
